I'd say if you're going to go out of your way to see anyone: see Ali or P.O.S. But all these dudes are good. I'd say Eyedea & Abilities are probably the most underrated of the bunch.

The Everyday Visuals-No unsigned act comes more highly recommended from me. At all. This band is absolutely phenomenal, with some very original arrangements and instrumentation. For Halloween last year, they covered "Pet Sounds" in its entirety (with some crazy cool feedback/noise stuff going on, too), and pulled it off.

Passion Pit-almost annoyingly fun electro/dance band. I saw them at Harpoon Brewery Summer Fest last year, and I kind of wanted to hate them for their simplicity and overly poppiness...but I couldn't, because I was enjoying them too much.

Via Audio-Just because they're on my friend's record label, and because the first time I saw them I developed the biggest crush on the singer. She is way too cute.

Kevin Devine & the Goddamn Band-Although they're signed, so not as high a priority as the above 3, Kevin Devine is, in my opinion, one of the greatest songwriters ever. His live shows especially are always intimate and interesting (especially when he changes the words to older recorded songs about his alcoholism to reflect his sobreity, which gives me shivers everytime. Of course, I was pretty drunk myself...)

I have to second those recommendations. Westin (tallest man ever) is an acquaintance of mine, and a good friend of mine does sound for the Spankers. They both put on phenomenal shows. The Shivers are playing a show with another really great Austin band, Shotgun Party, who are fantastic. Three-piece Texas-swing, jazz outfit. Tiniest Bar in Texas, on the 19th.

Also, Buttercup, from San Antonio, is a fun indie rock group that puts on one of the most enjoyable shows I think I've ever been to. They do strange things. It's quite charming.

And now, I'll weep bitterly for the platinum badge that I will never acquire, as I shuffle to the packed free shows.
