Thanks. It's a comment on the religious division in the suburbs where I live.
The wax medium is what makes the colours so rich - it makes the oil paint deeply translucent with a matte finish, so everything kind of glows in the light without any shine or gloss effect. -

Here is a rough color "sketch" version of the cover I was working on for round 1 of the Small Press Idol competition... that is, until I realized that my joblessness and bad credit ruined me for using Paypal. So anyway, I abandoned finishing the actual "drawing" of the picture, but wanted to see what it looked like in color, so this is SORT OF what it MIGHT have looked like in it's final form...

Oh, and orkantor: That Steam-Pop drawing is badass! Structurally, it reminds me of a Travis Charest cover, and I'm really digging the fabric folds or whatever that detailing is supposed to be (I know some of it is fabric, but then it becomes almost biological-looking, so...). -

I grabbed one of my wife's pop rags out of the trash and cut out some photos thinking I may do some sort of collage but I ended up doing this with one of the pix.

Finally found an open modelling session in our town, so the wife and I got a chance to draw from live nudes last week.
Man, do I need to get back into this; very rusty, must re-learn looking at live reference. Haven't pushed a real pencil around this much in a while. It felt good.
Please excuse wobbly anatomy, still getting my eyes re-trained.

Paul, it was very cool to see some actual pencil drawings from you. Keep this in mind: You'll have to know how to use the real thing once the apocolypse happens and the internet ceases working! For your next de-evolution: BPM entirely in cave paintings!!! -

Christ, we'll be running out of natural spaces to paint on. In our hypothetical future: Tribalfacebookersfanclubs will fight for the territorial rights of their 'favorite' artist to draw on the empire statebuilding. If the piece sucks they get eaten.

@kimieye: I just ganked the pencilled scan you had up here, so I can use that. I'll just do a good quality ink job and send that back to you to color if you want.
Your colored one turned out nice!
@Frequent: It's not so much that I don't use pencils, it's the actually looking at things, then looking again, getting visual details, and THEN drawing that I need to get back into the swing of. I'll post more next week after the session.
And the "Cave Painting Director's Cut" of BPM is already in the works. -
