Paul Duffield and I will be at the Blind Beggar pub in London this Sunday, 3/22 starting at 8 PM. If you're in the area, please stop by and say hello, have a drink with us, and come back here to tell tales and post pics and other incriminating evidence afterwards. Hope to see some of you there.

I'll check all my funding options; if I can afford a train ticket, I'd love to join you.

For those that didn't know, the Blind Beggar was where The Kray's perpetrated one of their most notorious crimes, the murder of one George Cornell for the heinous crime of calling Ronnie Kray a "Fat Poof" (though my old driving instructor, who was an employee of the Kray's main rivals in the East End - the Richardsons - maintained that it never was the Krays at all & they were framed).

**edited to add** And if I can find the time and petrol monies I may indeed make the journey from my Regional outpost down to ole lahndan town

Avatar obviously hasn't counted on the fact that I won a contest at my work reimbursing me up for up $1,000 worth of travel fare for a vacation, and I have to use it by April 1.

Note that they did specify car rental or hotel, but if I can squeak a cheap air fare in, drinks are on me.

For uh, one round at least depending on what the exchange rate winds up being.

@misat0 - hope you can get it lined up, it would be great to have you there.
@Tony Lee - sounds fine, you'll be in the mood to drink after the parents!
@Ted - Dude, it would great to see you again! I really hope you make it.
@stygmata - above and beyond the call, I love it! Where you coming in from?

Everyone else - If you can, please join us for what I'm sure will be an epic adventure in booze.

^ Boston, so it really is a cheap flight comparatively, and frighteningly I am actually considering this.

Do it! Have a pint for the rest of us who can't make it. With any luck you'll wake up on a ship bound for home. There is a possiblity you may gain a parrot and lose a limb.

See, when I saw there was going to be a "Whitechapel drink-up in Whitechapel," I imagined a thread that people are only allowed to post to after they've been drinking.

    Which clearly needs to happen.

What I wouldn't give for more money and a current passport. Have fun!

I know the Blind Beggar. Just opposite the White Hart/Murphys. I haven't drank there since I ended up at the post-Oxford/Cambridge boxing blues lock-in. Shame I have not enough money and far too much social anxiety for this.

Sadly I wont be able to make it. Getting there, as it turns out, is not the problem... but getting back is. Despite the fact it'd cost me next to nothing to get home, there simply isn't a train that leaves from London late enough, meaning at most i'd only get to see people for an hour and a half.

    /sadface

@Ted: /envy - must sort out comic expo arrangements for May soon.

I'm having a raging inner debate about this one. On one hand, I'd love to turn up, on the other I live two hours away, and while there might be a train back, I have to be back in London for 8.30 on Monday. And on the third hand, I'm skint until Friday... bastardbastardbastards.

@Jon, @Anoxia - I am crashing at a friend's to avoid missing the last train, and borrowing money from Future Ted to pay for it. What's that bastard ever done for me, anyway?
