   In the US at least(and we seem to have more works in public domain here as Peter Pan is free for all to use as long as it looks nothing like the Disney version) you have to wait 75 years after the author dies for Public Domain to set in, so unless you found live forever pills while I was in line buying bourbon and cigarettes...

   From what I understand, this has less to do with differing US/UK copyright law and more to do with the publisher trying to stymie Mr Moore as a result of his plans to move to Top Shelf. The comic shop that sold me my copy had about 50 copies proudly displayed around the store, including a window display. I don't think they're too worried about any kind of legal challenge, and I suspect that WB's lawyers might have made more of an effort to muster some of their own legal clout to 'make this go away' had Moore not been planning on jumping ship.

   From what I recall from Lying in the Gutter, DC's legal department had little to worry about in the Black Dossier and suggested some perfunctory changes. Dan DiDio was expecting the legal depart to switch on the warning claxon over the book's potential CR violations, still decided to exercise his power and block the book from being shipped or printed outside the US.
   
   I speculate that a Levitz/DiDio partnership is trying to "punish" Alan Moore over the bad press he has slathered over the good name of DC.
   
   Personally, this sounds of cutting one's nose off to spite one's face but who am I to judge.
   
   I predict DC will "relax" its odd, self-imposed restrictions and release Black Dossier into the world by about March or April next year.

   I live in the U.s. and I got my hardcover copy of Black Dossier before Thanksgiving. I ordered it from Amazon about 6 months ago. It says "printed and bound n the U.S.A" on the back of the dust jacket.

   It's possible too that in the past DC was willing to take risks with possible legal problems in order to keep Moore on board.
   
   Now that he's definitively ruled out ever working for them again they may be less willing to take those risks.
   
   That's a complete outsider's guess and I'm quite prepared for Warren or others with more insight into the industry to tell me I'm talking bollocks.

   Replace US with UK, subtract 5 years and you're good, or tack on 10 plus years.
