Note: original source falls under legitimate but unimpressive.The new “Sci-Fi Preview” edition of TV Guide reports (on page 28) that the desperately script-starved SciFi Channel may put into production the fully-scripted pilot for the “Battlestar Galactica” prequel “Caprica.”
“I just got a call from NBC-Universal,” SciFi VP Mark Stern tells the magazine. “They want us to take another look at the project.”
The prequel, set about half a century before the events of “Galactica,” will deal with Bill Adama’s lawyer dad and his contemporary, the human “inventor” of the Cylons. -
They're trying to find something to fill BSG's void, and this is the easy option really.
Going by the way Razor turned out I'm no longer excited by the prospect of this series... -

Well, since the DGA apparently just settled, it's now 50/50 (until details emerge) whether or not we're three weeks away from the WGA settling. Which means this would probably find its way back to the drawer it was pulled from... -

If what I just read about the new media compensation is right, double the current DVD rate, the writers might be back to work again very soon. The second half off the TV season might not be a total wash out...
Not sure they'll be sticking this back in the drawer though. It's re-emergence is probably more down to Dave Howe taking over from Bonnie Hammer at Sci Fi (hopefully a good thing) -

BSG continuation. -
Well, I was hoping for an actual flash back show to the time of the first war, not a story about some woman on the Pegasus. It has it's moments, but wasn't all that great really.

Well, according to Variety while she'll still be in charge, he'll be doing the day to day running and the decision making. So my guess would be that he picks the shows and she says if its in the budget to make them. Hopefully she'll be completely gone soon, that woman has pissed me off a lot over the years...

I have to say, nearly feel out of my chair it came this quick. I expected a week more at least. I really want to see the deal document.

I thought Razor was an interesting look into a couple of different segments of the Battlestar story, but it jumped around quite a bit. I must say, Caine was as scary as she ought to have been, that was probably the best part.
I'm curious to see what 'Caprica' has in store, because I'm really curious what life was like on the colonies before the war - if it was like the '40s were for us, or something entirely different. -

I dug Razor, but what I really want is the next season to start. I say Kara's a cylon. -
Caprica sounded like it was going to be a sort of future-drama, but I'm unable to imagine what the interesting future-conflict would be, so I'm kinda bored by the idea. And, I agree. Strike over = no desperate scrape for already written material.
And Battlestar... *sigh*
There was some revolving door of writers doing the second half of Season 3 while key people worked on Bionic Woman (ggaaaack) and it showed. It was consistently disappointing to me, and I am a fairly devoted fan. And the finale was a bizarro attempt at resolution - listening to the podcast, I got the feeling that it was an attempt to tie up all the crap aforementioned, and the whole "dood we're like totally cylons!" and Ron Moore's personal obsession with "All Along the Watchtower" (WTF?) were not exactly well thought out. I liked Razor just for being a consistent story that contributed to the lore and substance of the series, and possibly the last bit of it that will be watchable.
PS : I think Kara is the first bionic woman. -
Might be a while for the writers after all, read a more detailed summary over at United Hollywood and there's still a fair bit of work to be done there before the WGA will be happy. Good (re)start though
BSG Season 3 started off fantastically, dwindled, nearly lost me entirely, the kind of sprung up in the last 15 minutes. BUT I'm not all that excited about the next series. Lets just hope there's no flying bikes when they get to Earth...
And I don't think Starbuck is a Cylon, I think she's something else. IF she is a cylon I'll be quite pissed off. Is that like making Kirk a Klingon? Or Picard a Borg? Oh wait.... -

Hahahaha. Or Lorne Green with a beard, or a little kid with a bowl cut running the fleet. Oh my god, the horror.
I wonder, this could be wrong but Kara might not wind up being a Cylon, though Katee Sackhoff said in an outtake real I saw on Youtube that her character turns out to be "an alien". In the original show Apollo was brought back to life by the Seraphs and he got the pristine white costume and everything, like Kara did in the Season 3 finale. There have been allusions to the Seraphs in a few episodes, like with the sounds that attracted Chief Tyrol to the Temple of the Five on the algae planet.
The other four "Cylons" from the Season 3 finale might not be Cylons either in the conventional sense, or else the "skin job" Cylons might have at least caught a glimpse of them once in all their years? Maybe? I was guessing a scenario involving a distorted timeline, where these five were humans who somehow become transhistorical beings helping to establish human history.
The original comics version of BSG (which thankfully ignored the flying bikes abomination) had a lot to say about the Seraphs (the crystal ships from the original series), what they did to the original Baltar was pretty savage actually. They punished his crimes by transferring his consciousness into all the fleeting moments of human pain throughout all of history, so he lived forever in a world of total agony, which has got to be a lot worse than a brig or something. The Seraphs were too humane to just kill him outright, that's against the rules.
I'm curious about the lawyer character turning into Count Iblis, the Mephistopheles of the original show. There were some interesting similarities there. His powers only worked on you if you agreed to cooperate, like with Count Iblis. You know the guy who defended Baltar has to be a devil of some kind. -

Locutus of Caprica? Hmm...
I would love to see a Caprica series, but only if the writing is top-shelf. If they're just going to throw it out there because of the strike without regard to quality is a frightening thought. -

@obliterati: Haven't seen the original comics, but that sounds very interesting and I would be pretty happy if that's the direction they went in. At least it would get away from the "everyone is a Cylon" theories I keep hearing. -

Made it 3 or 4 episodes in before my eye balls just said "fuck you" and walked out the room. Porn level acting, amateur porn level attractive people, and late Sliders level plots. Total travesty

It was <i>Count Iblis</i> who was punished by the Seraphs in the comic version, I guess Baltar was killed off early by the Cylons in the Marvel version of BSG. They totally slit his throat with a sword! Whoa!
If Romo Lampkin is the new Count Iblis that would put a pretty interesting twist on the Caprica series because the Lampkin character was apparently a student of Adama's father back when the Cylons were first created. The whole sub-plot about the Cylons "judging humanity for it's sins" might stem from the involvement of a "devil character" in the first place. Just conjecture of course.
But to continue the religious analogies, because I'm ridiculous that way, I wonder if they plucked some of the Cylon cosmology from Thelemite stuff, with the opera house showing up in all those dream sequences perhaps being the <a target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_the_Pyramids">City of the Pyramids</a> from Crowley. There are at least a few similarities.
And this Book of Judas thing which was released in 2006 jibes really well with BSG, listing the 12 lead angels who oversaw the generation of Adam (like the 12 lords of Cobol in the series), and then getting hung up on the special 5 who live in the underworld when all the other angels take off to be different, like the five remaining Cylon ghosties. I'm unsure about it because the translated Book of Judas came out after the writing of the BSG "bible" from which all the scripts are supposedly made, but it's an interesting analogy.
It's also possible the scriptwriters are adapting to innovations in actual current events, and the release of a real-life religious text in 2006 was written into the BSG bible. For instance I've always wondered if the "Arrow of Apollo" story arc was based on the real-life finding of the lost <a target="_blank" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/18/science/space/18star.html">star map of Hipparchus</a> in 2005, which was found worked into a copy of an ancient Greek statue of Atlas. On a BSG episode aired not long after that real-life discovery, the Arrow of Apollo was placed on a sculpture in an ancient tomb and it produced a star map showing the path to Earth. Pretty cool if you ask me. Anyway, I obviously think about this stuff too much.
