Geoengineering is a terrific idea, truly one of the great 50s "Science can do anything!" grand-scale ideas (unlike the small, specific advances we often hear about now). Luckily the collossal power requirements for even the smallest controlled geo-change aren't within reach, because we're going to need all the extra time we can get to stabilise politically first. Can you imagine geoengineering technology becoming possible while people still insist on individual countries? You'd never get to turn it on, or if you do it'll either be the start of a war or part of one.
