It's not actually the first flashback. I think the first was toward the beginning of vol 2. Yep... episode 0030. I do, however, contend that this one was more beautiful in the art sense. The warm colors and soft focus and little Kait and "oh bum" were all great. And also the 'sploding bird.

Nasty! Paul does good gore- it's clinical, precise, even clean, but the more shocking for that. It seems very real. I've had a little too much of that this week- I was on the G20 protests in London and saw a few too many busted heads and truncheons swinging. But also some inspiring idealism and courage.

This was an intriguing episode; I don't think the murderer was an angel, but the angels' responses highlight very current debates about immigration and so on. You take in refugees, but inevitably there's the odd psycho among them- does that justify closing your borders and just protecting the people already there?

I feel really bad now about theorizing it was Kait who'd cut the shit out of that guy at the end of the last episode... especially after seeing Chief Inspector Kait with the little birdie.

I do wonder if the 'angels were gifted randomly with their abilities, or if they developed them consciously. The "user-specific" powers we've seen so far are just about perfectly suited to their respective users, though maybe their personalities were instead formed by the powers they already had. It's an interesting chicken-and-egg question.

@ Artemis - Good point; I think you're spot on with your former argument. We get good at things which mean a lot to us. I think 'the package' probably adapted to their individual psyches and manifests in specific talents dependent on their personalities and desires.

N.B. Does anyone remember an episode of 'The Authority' where the villian was a preacher who's psychic power increased exponentially with every mind he reached. Then a victim just had to touch someone else, and the psychic 'virus' was passed on. After discovering his power he went from being something like a car salesman (I forget the specifics), to a worry for the authority, to a demi-god within a matter of months; as his psychic disease spread around the globe, each new victim under his spell was another battery to draw upon.

I think Warren might have written it.

Anyway... yeah, I wonder if the FAs power could work like that. If it could, it would explain why they took the threat of Mark so seriously.

I think the quetion about the specific powers we have seen so far is pretty much just the individuals exploring their powers with the tools their personalities provide them with. As i believe was pointed out anyone of them could probably achieve the amazing things that arkady has done, but cant because they havent explored as much.
Pretty much they seem to have no limits to what they can do. The only limit seems to be what they allow themselves to do.
Pretty awesome when you consider it. Each of them a God. Whitechapel as the New Olympus?

Today I learned if you overcook whitefish it falls apart so if you cook chunks of it with pasta and veggies they just come out coated in fish mush. However it didn't end up tasting like mush because of the thyme and tarragon I added. Once again spices save dinner!

Yay! more insight to Freakpowerz. And very fascinating to see that they only have the barest sense for what they can do and didn't come into their powers with any finesse. Takes practice, like with anything else. Or practise. Whatever. (Firefox is telling me the second is a spelling error.) In any case, always love any enlightenment on the dimensions of the package as well as the history. And intrigued that it looks like Kait really tried to resurrect the guy - first blocked everyone out so they wouldn't know what she was doing, and then she looked around! Sadly, dead is dead and getting blood to pump only makes a mess. Doesn't restart life. Bless her for trying though. And bless Warren & Paul for the hard lessons we all have to take to heart.

It sort of depends on what you mean by "the killer." Remember that in the world of Freakangels you have at least twelve people who can employ mind-control techniques. In that case the "killer" could be nothing more than the "murder weapon" of one of the Freakangels. Probably not Kait, but we don't even know that. Conner said Kait was "genuinely mental." Perhaps "genunely mental" includes undiagnosed multiple personality disorder and is one of the reasons Kait screens herself so much.

In a way, I could sympathize with Kait's screening out the sight of the gutted corpse from Sirkka. This is the sort of awful stuff that can emotionally scar someone unprepared for it. The trouble is, though, when does shielding civilians (for lack of a better word) from the world's nastiness become a hindrance rather than a blessing?

That aside, it's been an interesting week. My jury service has been extended for a little bit for the time being. I'm faced with the minor dilemma of too little money and too many nicely discounted new Criterion DVDs to choose from (e.g. "El Norte" or "The Spirit Of The Beehive"). But happily, my press accreditation came through for an upcoming film festival. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to talk to Laurie Hill about "Photograph Of Jesus," a short about how a Getty Images archivist deals with patrons who want phographs of Jesus or Santa Claus.

Warren should probably comment here, but I don't that's why Kait was shielding. Recall that in episode 23 Sirkka both saw and created her fair share of gutted corpses with her giant steam-cannon. I think Kait was shielding because she doesn't want the other 'angels to know what she can do with corpses. Note that she shielded right before she activate the power to make the corpse "talk."
