Wasted Punk Youth Mix aka Dirty Ass Kids Jams
It was fun being young and breaking shit. These songs were the soundtrack to my young adulthood.
Discipline - These Streets : Danish hardcore vets reflecting on how cities never fundamentally change and will always be a part of the people who live in them. Roads, alleys, and streets not only exist in the physical world, but are landmarks to citizen memories. First heard them on the live Agnostic Front/Discipline split "Working Class Heroes".
Bad Brains - At the Movies : While some might argue that other songs such as I Against I or The Big Takeover are better, I've always thought At the Movies was the perfect B.B.'s song. It has opera wails, trademark stopping on dimes, amazing git fiddling, and a message.
Blood for Blood - White Trash Anthem : When I wasn't going to shows or hanging out I lived in the fucking hood, alone and broke, and this song helped me get by. "Have you ever prayed to the night sky, under one of them cold street lights, watch another stolen car drive by, lose your hope and says this is where I'll die?"
The Business - Hang the DJ : The best version of this song ever and if you think otherwise you are wrong. The music that they constantly played in bars and at my old job said nothing to me about my life, but punk rock did.
Agnostic Front - Sit and Watch : Another song I listened to while renting in the hood. The lyrics "broken glass from a stolen car, drug dealers surround me, what ever happened to the way things used to be?" had a specific resonance with me at that point in my life.
Ramones - Havana Affair : Besides the Bad Brains, the only band that makes me happy instantly and I can jam over and over. My other punk friends shunned them for more hardcore stuff, but I've always dug the Ramones, and Havana Affair is the perfect song to showcase their offbeat energy. This is the live version.
The Misfits - Bullet : A song about getting a handjob from Jackie O. Also : Texas is the reason that the President's dead. I primarily dig Danzig Misfits, but there's a few songs here and there A.D. (After Danzig) that are ok.
The Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer : I had a hard time picking a band from Ohio, but I chose these guys because I didn't think I could find any of the other bands (Ringworm, Pitboss 2k, Rocket from the Crypt). This song is fucking classic and drips with sneering mad science. Blood for Blood also made a decent cover of The Dead Boys' "All this and More". -

Slaughterhouse Mix
A mix in honor of my new home and friends, which have made me happier than anything in recent memory.
F.Y.P.- Wherever The Creeps Go: I believe I put a Toys That Kill track on my last mix. This is the band that eventually became TTK.
Frogball- Fuck: A punk rock song about late-night snacking
Lemuria- Dog: Everyone in the house seems to be of the opinion that this is the hands-down apex of Lemuria's output. It's pretty goddamned good. They roll with the pop-punk crowd, but the music is more sad romance indie stuff. They're planning to play our basement before autumn is out, and I'm going to try really, really hard to not hit on Sheena, the lead vocalist.
The Ergs!- Extra Medium: Again with the Ergs!, this guy. But a common adoration of this band was a huge factor in my bonding with the people in this house. Along with a mutual love of Transmet, funnily enough. I spotted the Transmetropolitan collection in a stack of comics here, and showed up the next day with Bad World, Fell, Lazarus, and Crooked Little Vein. Then we all blew each other. Anyhow, this track is a sing-along favorite, especially if you know the proper call-backs.
Jay Reatard- Death is Forming: I'd heard a bunch about this dude, but never gave him a proper listen until moving here. Lo-fi garage-y stuff, I'm digging it pretty hard.
The World/Inferno Friendship Society- Cats Are Not Lucky Creatures: I was delighted to find the vinyl version of W/IFS' 'Red-Eyed Soul' album, looking through my housemates' records. This is a vinyl-exclusive song, which is a damn shame, as it ranks somewhere in the band's top-five best.
Jawbreaker- Jet Black: No fancy explanation. My buddy Tom and I listened to Jawbreaker's 'Dear You' while sitting around drawing cartoons. Good album, and influenced roughly one hundred and twenty percent of good bands working today. And a lot of shitty bands, too.
A.F.I.-Totalimmortal: Another sing-along favorite, from back when A.F.I. could still at least claim to be a punk band, if not hardcore. They're channeling Danzig-era Misfits here, very intentionally. -

in the run up to Halloween, i thought i´d do a mix. shall i go for horror titles or go for atmosphere? No surprise, i went to atmospherics...
Meeting a creepy Hitchhiker in a snowstorm night drive on Hringverðurinn during Halloween...
I culled a couple of post-apocalyptic tracks (abeit ones i put on there), and yes it does include Ennio Morricone´s theme form "The Thing" (which is required by law to be listened to in the dark). The rest is all unsettling sounds and mean, spooky rock. enjoy... -
