A note to all the folks that had sold-out stores - they can order more. All the covers are still in stock with our distributor right now, so please encourage them to bring a few more copies and give the book a chance to reach more folks. Here are all the order codes they would need. Thanks!

@William Christensen thanks for the order codes. out of the 3 local shops in the area, only one had more than a couple copies on hand (i tend to go to multiple stores during the week so i don't miss anything lol). I will be traveling back to all three with the intent of making them order more for their shelves.
@Warren Ellis Fantastic start to another great idea of yours. I can't wait to see where you are going with this one good sir. I bought my store, the one i have a pull list at, out of all 5 remaining copies in order to pass them along to friends and co-workers (plus keeping a wrap for myself of course). Everyone i gave a copy to is looking forward to issue two, so it's just a matter of getting copies into the hands of the masses. These are the same people that are now avid FreakAngels fans btw.
Thanks for the Great work Mr. Ellis and Thank You Mr. Christensen for getting it out there for us to enjoy!!!
I may be alone in this, but I thought the first installment ended very abruptly. I came to the last page and then turned it expecting a bit more. I found myself checking to see if the pages were stuck together or if I had otherwise missed something. It may be more of a comment on the rest of my reading selections which usually conclude with a very obvious END marker, but I found that the conclusion of the first installment left me feeling as if I were sitting in a movie theater watching the first part of a great serial and then the film breaks at the very end of the first reel.
Of course, this may just be a method of leaving me wanting for more. If so, it was quite successful.
Regarding the "abrupt ending" thing people are mentioning... the last line is a great cliffhanger line. The panel art isn't as dramatic-looking as cliffhangers usually are, though, so that might be why people are feeling this way (I had the same experience). Or maybe if there'd been an additional beat, with the final sentence in its own balloon, or its own balloon and panel. It's a minor detail, but I can see some reasons as to why it happened. And comics doesn't have a "fade out" like the end of a tv episode does - it just stops. I expect it'll read nice and fluidly in the trade.
it was the "abrupt ending" that got me hooked. it was the best part for me. i found it harder to get into because i felt like i was walking in on the middle of a conversation... but that's just me being dyslexic.
This is fucking phenomenal. It feels like something very big and important. And there were plenty of parts I giggled at reading. Good job Ellis, Good job Avatar, Good job Gianluca Pagliarani. Mad bastards all of you. This book exemplifies perfectly why the Avatar line is as important to me as any other company doing comic books right now.
Finally got to read the copy I picked up last week and liked it a lot. It has more depth than I expected, the part where she starts crying actually got to me. Love the art and pretty much everything else about this one too. Avatar and Ellis continue to impress. I wish all comics were more like this. And I even got the painted cover too. Yay!

I felt the same way about the ending of the first issue, but I guess it's a sign that I was enjoying the read. I did the same thing thumbing through the back pages only to find order forms. it's worth mentioning though, that I like the fact that Avatar doesn't interrupt the book with house ads and puts all that stuff in the back.
Finished reading last night. As usual, great first issue. You should get paid by other writers to write the first issue of new books because you always nail it. Just enough to get your feet wet, just enough to make you want more. Was pissed at my LCS (Source Comics in MN) didn't have it in my subscription folder even though I handed them the order coupon TWO FUCKIN MONTHS AGO. Good thing they ordered enough.
I think Gianluca Pagliarani's art looks better in color than B&W. The color provides a better depth, as sometimes things looked cluttered in Aetheric Mechanics with the level of detail in some pages. I like how you've taken modern jet architechture and tweaked it subtly for space flight. And I love how a Ray Gun acts like a Ray Gun would if it really existed.
