But there are still a couple of links and a little product recap up at the main site.

And, yeah, I know we just had a skip week, but please direct any whining at me -- after all, I'm the mechanic: part of my job is hitting things with very big sticks to make sure they're working smoothly. Clearly I was remiss in my duties this week, because THE FUCKING UNIVERSE has been acting up like whoa.

Anyone that feels like making a good "I HIT IT AND IT SCREAMS AND ALL IS BETTER" mixtape over on the 8tracks thread, I would appreciate it muchly...

How did everyone else fare, this week? Did you all get around to bulking up your profiles? I'm still noticing no profile pics when I roll over some of your usernames. I don't really need to see all of your faces, but it is nice to have something to look at, y'know?

I put up a profile pic that has my face in it, but it's obviously not what you'd call a "real" picture. I'm kind of paranoid when it comes to putting pics of myself online so I masked up a bit. :p

Hope things calm down for you. Wish I could do more to help.

    bummed, but totally understandable.

Ah, it's a holiday. Time out. Happy Easter, everyone!

I'm going to see Trembling Bells and Hamilton Yarns tonight, and will be eating chocolate turtles all weekend.

    Yes! Happy Spring Holidays!

I'm still racing through my weeks until a better mood hits, and can't believe that it's Easter already. I added my email and birthday info to my profile, and am thinking of updating the picture soon. I'll be going to the Opera matinee on Sunday to see Die Walkure. The rest is up in the air.

Edit: For some reason I thought that the notice was from Paul and not from Warren when I was reading it barely awake this morning. Must have been the lack of threat in the tone. Sorry.

I have to agree, Marc Ellerby is awesome.

I actually met him once, at a con, I forget which one. I walked by his stall a couple times, asked about his books but didn't think I was gonna get one because I was short on cash and I had no idea who this guy was....but I as won over by the FEEL of his little books, as naff as that sounds. On the bus home from....wherever the hell it was...Thought bubble in Leeds maybe, I found out that he was acually hilarious and very talented.

Bought Phonogram: Singles Club #1 from his site, as everywhere had sold out. And was surprised to find he'd signed it when it arrived (he does the art for a back-up story in there). Which all in all goes to show he's talented, funny and a pretty ace guy. Mucho fan!

    whine. bitch. complain.

no really, warren and paul put out a huge amount of effort every week, they deserve a break - especially on Easter so they can celebrate (which probably means getting inebriated and pissing on a church/easter rabbit).

    shit happens.

Given that Warren must need the harvested brain power of 30 preschoolers cranially nailed together as a giant organic RAM add-on for his own thoughts in order to maintain his work output/drinkfests, and that Paul is no slouch, popping out pages like a catholic mother drops suprise children, I think that I can live with them having a light week.

I'd love to know what sort of backup routine our Mr. Ellis has - if only so I can avoid it, because it seems that whatever it is it's hell-bent on fucking him over.

'Fell' and now this (and I have vague recollections of a third loss of data) means I feel less paranoid that I keep things on three different hard-disks and one online storage system.

Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again (or that you stop buying 'top quality' HDDs from the bloke in the pub who smiles a little too wide when you hand him your tenners).

It's either that or the nasty black thoughts that are stored on these computers have a nasty habit of burning themselves through the platters.
  6.  (5555.12)
It was just some weird freakout -- one second the document was there and I was finishing writing it, the next minute it was gone, it vanished from the desktop where it was saved to, it vanished from the backup drive too (and I'd seen the popup that said it was saving to the backup -- I have a 1TB external drive running Memeo that saves everything every sixty seconds), and the Recent Documents shortcut was still there but didn't lead to anything. Hugely bizarre, and completely unlike the other occasions (which, I'd remind people, culminated in the 20-year-vintage top local computer shop closing down with the staff vanishing to the four winds after the proprietor evidently died on an operating table in Germany while my machine was still there undergoing data recovery, the shop now boarded up and no-one anywhere having a clue where any of the computers inside disappeared to).
  7.  (5555.13)
Is it just me or you really aren't lucky with computers, Warren? (and no, I'm not about to suggest you get a Mac, I use Windows myself, don't worry) I mean, first a meltdown destroys the FELL scripts (and Desolation Jones too, correct?) and now even with a backup drive this script vanishes. I hope you didn't lose any work besides the FA script.

And COUNTLESS other scripts and documents. And a novel.

I didn't know about the novel -- not to mention the "ideas file" (I think you mentioned once you've got one - or several - with "to be used" ideas).

Only added the Flickr photostream, which was all that still needed to be added really. Week was insanely busy and strangely... social, which isn't my modus operandi. A "transitional" kind of week that can either result in something very good or very bad.

Blarg. First week of my new rotation and work starts at 6am Even with cocoa, I am dragging serious ass at this point. Why I am not sleeping now when I am totally exhausted baffles me. Only bonus is they appear to love me and want to hire me now. Potential new coworkers are pointing me out and talking to the head honcho that does the hiring. Strange, but pleasing.

I have moved on the hitting things with The Shovel when they will not work. Just shove the wired back in place if they slip out.

Christ, I can't even fathom what you felt when that happened. I remember being pissed as hell when my younger sister overwrote the 3.5 disk I was using to save some fuckwit Thunderbolts fanfic I was doing back several years ago that represented maybe thirty hours of writing. I wanted to ring her neck for it. Gods, the scripts AND a novel. And that was that novel that would've been the follow-up to CROOKED LITTLE VEIN, right?

This makes me really paranoid now.

I have an awful habit of not backing up any of my work in any way at all. Luckily, nothing bad has ever really happened, and the one time this computer did get shut down by a virus my Dad managed to recover everything important.

Hmm, think it may be an Easter task for me to backup everything and research some online storage systems/external hard drives.
