Has anybody else had difficulty with receiving the tickets, or has my chain of internet, expo staff and the post office had the only weak link?
I bought 3 early entry tickets as soon as they went on sale and the order status has been 'processed' for a while now. Got a bit worried last friday when no tickets had arrived so got in touch with the expo. Was told to wait until wednesday to see if they arrived and 'ta-da!' no tickets (and the phone line has closed for the evening)
I'm in England until Monday, and MCM is on our schedule. I'm a bit bummed out that Warren is speaking only a few days later-- once I've gone. Oh well.
We're in St. Johns Wood, so I expect the trip there should be painless. About 40 minutes on Jubilee, right?
I see a bunch of folks mentioning good pubs in the area: the Urban and whatever. Can anyone critique or redirect that advice?
Anyway, I plan on being there with my girlfriend (whom I've converted into one of Warren's Holy Slut Army using CLV). We'll get some junk signed and say hello to the old man, and peruse the wares. Any shared wisdom on other goings-on would be much appreciated.
Be prepared for very long queues in that case. Get there before the doors open for the general public (11am) to try and get to the front of the queue. At least it's interesting looking at everyone's costumes in the queue! Take your camera :)
Just to repeat the fact to everyone that Custom House will be closed. Here are the travel arrangements they advise for the Saturday:
Visitors are strongly advised to use the Jubilee from London Bridge to Canning Town. Alight at Canning Town to transfer to regular and direct shuttle bus services to the main west entrance of ExCeL. This journey will take approximately 4-5 minutes. Buses will depart from bays B and D of Canning Town bus station. This direct shuttle service will operate to and from ExCeL between 0700-1900.
Scheisse.. just learnt that the Overground to Stratford won't be running either on Saturday :( It's going to take me an hour to get there!
"LONDON OVERGROUND, RICHMOND - STRATFORD LINE: On Saturday 23 May, suspended between Dalston Kingsland and Stratford due to planned engineering works. Replacement buses operate."
Guys i would definitely follow UrbanAngel“s advice re: travel via Canning town. God that area of london is a total bitch to travel through on the weekend when the DLR and parts of the Jubilee line and overland are closed. And gettignt here by bus from the City takes AGES.
M luck and good wishes to all those who manage to make it....
Vrbtm - check out www.tfl.gov.uk and use the Journey Planner - from St. John's Wood the quickest route is 55 mins and that is by bus and 2 diff tubes to Canning Town via Stratford!
There is a lovely pub in Stratford called the King Edward VII (you go through the mall and its on the other side of the road to the left). However, I don't know if I'll be there so I don't wanna recommend it :p
My god, how early will I have to leave to get there?
My god, should I pack a lunch, or at least a hip flask?
My god, is it nearly 1am?
My god, should I wear a blue rose so fellow Whitchapelers can identify me?
Actually, fuck the rose, lunch and alarm clock; I'm drinking the whiskey and powering through the night. Identify me by my maniacal twitching. Sweet dreams.
So I didn't go. Girlfriend's family booked plans otherwise, and I wasn't able to secret myself away given transportationapocalypse today.
I was really excited to meet you all and shake W's hand and then make him sign 483,723 books-- mostly duplicate copies of _The Soul Sword_ story from Excalibur.
