    This seems timed to have a marketing connection with the GI JOE feature film this summer. Approaching Warren Ellis results in a treat that the producers may never have anticipated.

    I agree with Jess, I don't think the voice acting (with the exception of Cobra Commander being well and truly villainous, as opposed to the bumbling idiot of the original series) does the writing justice. Which is probably why I liked the second episode the best... after the talking ended. Just a ton of well-timed Ellis Action. I thought the lines themselves were great, the voice overs just seemed to be under-produced.

    I'll also second the "Where is his grenade belt?" as a fucking great sequence. Curiosity killed the Cobra.

    And of course you can't have ninja without a classic ceeling drop.

    Villanous points go out to the Cobra minion for being able to stand his ground after seeing his unit get offed before he lost at Iaido. Good to see competence in one's henchmen as opposed to the standards of incompetence seen in other things.

    Snake Eye's teacher was Hard Master I believe, of the Arashikazi clan (I probably got the spelling way wrong on that)...
    Mr. Ellis, you killed Bazooooka! I always thought it silly that no one ever died in the cartoon. Oh and what a meaningless death too...nothin but a taunt...that was awesome.
    I hope I hope I hope that this cartoon continues, now that you've given it a nice direction.
    My childhood crushes are sexa again! :P

    Cobra Commander reminded me of The Monarch for the Venture Brothers a bit initially seemingly pathetic but both of them seem to have realizations of one sort or another. Stabbing a traitor in front of all your soldiers and leaving the body in front of the statue of Abe Llincon was awesome.

    "You're my new favorite Joe." That line from episode 3 seemed to be an echo of my thoughts. Now to watch 4 and 5. I noticed that it looks/plays better on my iPhone than my computer, and this is odd to me, which makes me think that I am growing old faster than I notice (and I'm noticing time moving very rapidly these days).

    I realise it's bad form to look too closesly at what happens in a G.I. Joe cartoon, and I like a good catastrophe to get things rolling (it's certainly a change from all those A-Team guns firing and no one ever dying) -- and, never having seen an entire episode of the show prior to this, as far as I know there's some weird kind of duellist chivalry at play here, or Cobra Commander is nursing an unrequited crush on head Joe guy there. But if I'm the new and improved completely homicidal Cobra, and I know enough about where G.I. Joe hang out to be able to sneak in and kill their security expert, I think I might vapourise them before I vapourised Moscow, seeing as they're always fucking up my plans. The name of the series would have to be changed to Cobra after that.

    I've taken to watching YouTube exclusively on iPhone. Shrinking the image down a bit more removes all of that pesky pixellation.

    Mr. Ellis' Bad Signal reveal that he is now hated by G.I. Joe fans makes me very happy. Let them rage; their hero just got improved and they don't even realise it.

    Pretty much. Fucking chumps. This is the best thing that's happened to a childhood love of mine in a long time. Those jerk-offs from YouTube probably love the Micheal Bay Transformers flicks; which shows how much they know about what a good, modern-day adaptation of a classic series/concept means. I'm also glad Resolute isn't overtly political.

    Still loving it! Esp. the ninja shit. Great background on the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry. Warren, how much of that was dictated by the license holders and how much was artistic liberty? I guess the same question could apply to the whole series. Did they just say: "Here's G.I. Joe. Run with it," or were there parameters in which you had to write?

    I'm in wholehearted agreement with everyone who is reliving their childhood in a more grown-up, badass, and lethal incarnation here. At the end, Zartan materializes on the catwalk, and I breath out a suspenseful "Zartan" just before Duke does. You know... I remember searching like mad for that action figure when I was a kid. It featured cutting-edge, color change technology!!! OMG! Must Have!
    I'm really pleased with how recognizable all of the Joes are. And now, Dialtone! A 21st Century Joe, indeed.

    Anyway... thanks again, Warren. If ever the opportunity arises, all the drinks are on me.

    I'm not familiar with the characters, beyond what I've seen in Warren's episodes. Don't know a damn thing about them outside of episodes 1-5. Nothing.

    So. Um. Here it goes:

    Is one of these guys named "Joe?" Or is that just the organization name?

    Yeah, G.I. JOE is an acrynom, if I remember correctly. None of them are named Joe.
