@ Jeff Hollandwhat I love about Ellis's characters is their willingness to admit what they do not know, and their confidence that they can learn it if it's explained to them by experts.
this is the whole principle behind taking "A Master." like when Ralph Macchio asks Mr. Miyagi to "teach him how to sweep" in Karate Kid III. or when Dustin Hoffman learns hows to teach Jack Black in "Kung Fu Panda." ... or why "The Bride" sticks it out under the Cruel Tutelage of Pei Mei.

One of my favorite G.I. Joe anecdotes is one of a very few episodes that I happen to catch in my "mature, adult phase" ... after having read Tom Wolfe's "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test"
One episode of G.I. Joe plot features C.O.B.R.A. taking over a chemical plant and producing a "mind control" drug. The plant in question is called "Owlsley Chemical."

Did they ever fight anybody other than Cobra?
Acually, yes. At one point a mad "toymaker" kidnapped Cobra Commander, Baroness, Flint and Lady J, then took them to his island fortress filled with robot "toys" and play "Most Dangerous Game" with them. Ultimately GIJOE and COBRA actually teamed up and launched a massive assault on the island to get their people back. It was quite a memorable episode for several reasons. First, a naked Lady J was boxed up by robot as she was changing clothes in a dressing room. Then the Baroness comforted (not in that way, you pervs) Lady J after Flint was apparently killed by a giant toy lawnmower and finally, both Joe and Cobra forces were surprisingly accurate with their weapons, since they were shooting at toy robots. -
In the comic there was the Oktober Guard, which was the Soviet Equivalent.. Occasionally they would face off.

I watched the entire thing (yes, all 11 episodes) on t.v. last night... it was pretty good. I was expecting something a little different though.
FYI: Teletoon (a Canadian station) played it all last night from a little after 11 until nearly 12:30. -

@rickie: yeah, I couldn't help but laugh at "Springfield, USA" too. Were the Joes just innately lucky enough to pick the correct Springfield from the hundreds of options across America (edit: er, 34 options [what a pointless correction])? Or maybe it's the same universe the Simpsons takes place in...?
@Warren: was that your choice, or someone else's? I guess I can imagine it being done out of an odd worry that some American audience members might get upset if their specific city was turned into a terrorist haven that had to get blowed up good, but I don't know. Just an odd quirk that gave me a chuckle.
Otherwise great enjoyable entertainment. Just finished watching, loved the Snake Eyes bits. -

Great fun watching those old toys come to life in the final chunk, that was a blast, and hooray for watching the whole of it unbound by nasty compressed Flash-bits. Now when and where can I buy it?

The Battle of Springfield
Ditto on how incredibly badass the final showdown between the last of the Arashikage was. As for ep 9, Evil Marksmanship aside, this was "John Woo does GI Joe", minus the characters in white dying, which felt like a very real possibility in a series jumpstarted by offing Bazooka. Loved it. -

Springfield is the no:1 most common name for a city in the US.
That's why Matt Groening chose it for the Simpsons, and I'd hazard that it's also why Warren chose it. -

Oh that was fun! Brutal, efficient, action packed...
I really hope this comes out on DVD. -
Watched it on adult swim last night. kicked so much ass. Would have liked to see moar Baroness tho ;) That was funny how they were having shoot outs and not hitting each other ^_^
also surprised at the end with the TITMOUSE (they worked on Metalocalypse) logo. they really rocked the whole thing. -

Cobra Commander essentially founds Cobra in a midwestern town called "Springfield". It never says WHAT Springfield in the comics or older shows. After spending years building contacts and being a fairly standard criminal, Cobra Commander found himself in Springfield. The local economy had been in the shitter for decades, and the population had a lot of reasons to hate the American government (much like the insane Cobra Commander Himself). Using what little money he had, and his charisma and criminal abilities, Cobra took over the town and made it prosperous again, gaining the love and admiration of the town. He convinced them to join his new organization, saying that he would eventually give them whatever they wanted, including money and power, as long as they followed him without question. Thus, Cobra was born.
THAT is where "Springfield, USA" comes from.
