    Anyone discovering Vol 2 for the first time?

    Anyone comparing the way it reads in one volume to the way it reads online?

    Anyone even reading it anymore?

    I actually just picked it up and am settling down with it at the coffee shop. I've been reading the comic adamantly every week online, so it's not new material for me. But I really enjoy the read a second time through, especially in trade paperback format. The action, which is even more prevalent in this issue, maintains it's punch when it can be read all at once, rather then idling the tension between releases. I meant to just page through the first couple pages to refresh myself on the story and found myself finishing the whole thing. And now my coffee is cold.

    This is also a way to get my friends to read the series, who seems to have some sort of aversion to the online version. After showing off the first book, a few went out and picked it up for themselves. Seems none of them read it online, though. Only in hard copy. Why is that? That internet is only a slightly horrifying place. This is actually kind of a problem with people I know. Most casual comic readers seem to hate reading comics issue by issue and prefer to wait for them to be collected in a paperback. I don't understand it. There's definitely something exciting to head out every Wednesday to indulge in new comic book day or getting up on Friday and saying aloud in bed "It's Freakangels Day!" like a crazy person.

    Haven't picked mine up yet. Also need NO HERO and IGNITION CITY.

    Me like paper Freakangels better, but me am stupid. Me sleep now.

    my comic shop didn't get Volume 2 for some reason this week. :/

    they had Ignition City #2 at least.

    I'm one of the inexplicable population that reads this in trades and doesn't actually follow it online. I do read comics online, and I did read a few of the first pages of this one online, but somehow it worked like an all-you-can-eat sampler... I read just far enough to know I liked it, then started hanging out here and waited for the print version.

    The first volume read beautifully as a one sit down, unified chapter. I think it might have actually been a little difficult for me to read it in smaller chunks. I have lots of patience for waiting in between complete chapters, but get frustrated at too many small skips forward.

    Anyway, if the purpose of putting it online is partly to cajole readers into buying the print books, it worked well enough on me.

    Comparison wise, I will say that some of the colors in the art look better online than in the book, but that's just because of the backlight onscreen. The daylight scenes and the watery London really look gorgeous on screen, and some of the airy subtlety in those colors is lost in ink. But overall I like the book reading experience on this one better.

    Just picked up trade #2, and will probably burn through it tomorrow night.

    I ordered it maybe a month ago but it hasn't arrived yet. I wait in pain for my Freakangel yearning to be satisfied.

    Also, the scene in which Alice eats the strawberry is my favorite. Followed shortly by the infamous "All your forthcoming bone fracture are belong to us" line.

    I plan on picking this up. Duffield's art looks even better when printed on dead trees. In recognition of the second TPB surfacing, I did a quick feature/review of Freakangels on my comics blog Exquisite Things. Most of this will be old hat to many readers of the comic but I thought it was worth a mention as there are bound to be people who haven't given it a look yet. Still massively enjoying Freakangels and especially the decompressed pacing.

    Freakangels is one I definitely do read online, with slavish devotion, but I buy the trades to show support and because I think it reads well in collected volumes. Bizarrely, even though Carla Speed McNeil is now publishing Finder online, I always tend to wait for the trade. I use her site more as a 'taster' to get an idea of what I'll be getting. Freakangels seems quite well suited to online serialisation, perhaps that's because you manage six pages a week, which is quite satisfying as a weekly read.

    Oh, if any of you do write a blog, please feel free to link me, leave comments etc. Trying to up the readership at Exquisite Things as we're still quite new to the comics blogosphere.

    i must admit though i love the first one in paper form compared to on the net, the print was nice and on a good sheet :)

    My LCBS stocked a copy of each version of volume 2. Needless to say I bought the limited edition hardcover and the dual signed hardcover. I am purchasing Freakangels in the limited edition hardcovers, but I wanted to buy one of the dual signed just to get one.

    Unfortunately I probably won't get anymore, considering the price of each one. But I have no such qualms about the $27.99 price tag on the other hardcover, besides those covers have been very nice!

    Got the paperback, I like being able to see the whole page at once instead of having to scroll down for the rest of it (especially on the one panel splash pages)...and I can read it after the apocalypse, woot.

    this is a repost from May 30th (the day I got my HC in the mail) in the other thread titled "FreakAngels Volume 2" not started by Warren:

    I don't think I've ever gotten a book this fresh before. shrink wrapped hot off the presses. I can only compare it to a new textbook in its first semester, though not as institutional. I can't quit huffing it. I made my brother quit eating his ramen to smell it, practically shoving it up his nose. I'm still smelling it. I don't want to waste any of it. been reading "no country for old men" all day, but now I gotta read this before the smell wears off.

    So I ended up dropping the online books in favor of the trades. I can't keep track of much online regularly (even sex and porn at this point in my life -- old man sigh).

    And the first trade was decent, left me wanting to see more. I felt like most of the characters were only touched on peripherally -- like there were too many to really get their chance on the page.

    The second trade I just picked up this past week. Quite excellent. I loved how the characters revealed themselves and their points of view (along with their various powers). The crisis point was credible -- the characters made interesting twists as the levels of fucked-up-ness emerged. They all fit in quite nicely in this collection, and the sheer number of them helped to see different parts of this broken place.

    Again, can't comment on the online aspect -- as I'm sure that works for some folks -- but I am really getting into the trades.
