    Twitter now has the "Trending Topics" on it's website. Not all interfaces support it, but basically, as a topic is hot, it gets on this list.

    Recently, the fecal spew has included #teabaggers and some fuck who is telling people to "have hope! don't let the recession rule you! Oh, yeah, please buy my book" - of course, he tells people that for free in the interest of selling his books n workshops n stuff. Classic offer of secret wisdom resulting in profit because most people are fucking stupid.

    What I'm doing is finding the trends I think I'll get eyeballs from and post something that is appropriately eye grabbing. And posting a link to my ashcan. In 15 minutes, I rec'd more than 20 downloads from one tweet.

    Yeah, it's not money in the bank, but it's definitely a result.

    Anyone else got something similar?

    Example??? I am curious if you mean that you are posting something related to the topic or just like "Amazonfail! Here's another word that starts with A!" approach.

    @BrianMowrey
    Here's the latest of two I've done:

    @townhallforhope Dave, suck my balls for profiteering on hope and read my comic book. http://tinyurl.com/cejsv5 #thfh
    - 30+ downloads in 15 or so minutes.

    I did another one for #teabagger #teaparty

    @oldhat
    Great article

    @heresybob What you can also do is buy huge lists of email addresses and then just send off bulk adverts as well. I hear that also works.

    Ah. Very cool. What's great about this is that you circumvent forum backlash. Also, you could make this work directly and half-way at the same time, enticing new followers who would dig your merch later.

    Another approach which takes advantage of the ephemeral nature of these tag streams that I just thought of would be faking a conversation: "Hey Chris. Heres the link to my comic book like I mentioned http..."

    Hello I am a Nigerian prince and need you to help me process some checks. I have millions of dollars tied up in these checks! You can help me, and in return, you may keep some of these millions of dollars!

    (I couldn't help it... that seems to be where this thread is headed for some reason...)
