Oh shit. That is so unfair. :(

He was on my flickr feed, and I loved his work. He will be missed here on Whitechapel.

The Star Tribune and Pioneer Press have writeups for him today as well, confirming that it was the drain at the base of the bridge just a few blocks away.

As I was sitting there last night after hearing about this, I realized a police car I saw that morning on my way to work was headed to the scene. I'd almost taken a picture of it too, because of the way the lights were reflecting off the rain-slicked bridge looked really neat, but didn't want to get my camera all wet in the rain.

Man, not even Marvin Gaye's GOT TO GIVE IT UP (Extended Version), which happened to be playing on my Blip.fm feed could lessen how much this sucks.

He's not only a Whitechapel'er, but like a few others here, Ian's home is my home, too. His chronicles of it were always breathtaking, showing a side of this land, in its natural AND unnatural states in ways only his eye could see, but whose love and passion were so very evident.

It's a good thing my niece was outside when I read this, so I could fill the house up with "FUCK FUCK FUCK" as tears ran down my face.

    Not Fucking Cool.

Peace be unto you, Ian. Namaste.

Like others here, I haven't really interacted with him other than to appreciate greatly his photos as they appeared, like this great set.

It is a shock to read that someone so young and curious and talented has died. My condolences to those who knew and loved him.

Man, this sucks, especially for his wife and kids. Such an unpredictable tragedy. Loved his photography, I think we talked about graff on the old graffiti thread. He had the balls to do what most of us dream about.

    So sad.

It's a special place on the internet where you can find out a fellow board member you had never even talked to dies, and your heart just sinks. And you're not the only one.

    Condolences.

Goddam. His contributions to the Outside World Image thread were consistently among my favorites.
