Sunday Night Open Mic: is when I stop talking and start listening. Speak to me. Vent at me. Tell me secrets, get something off your chest, tell me what you've been doing this week, tell me what you've been dreaming of, tell me what you want to invent, tell me the frightening and injurious ways in which you love me. Say anything.
Say hello. I'm right here, and it's just you, me and the internet tonight.
All my friends who write paranormal romance novels sell far better than I do. Tonight, I'm having a drink and contemplating exactly to what extent I'm willing to sell out -- if selling out is even an option.
I spent far too much time last week watching 'Lost'. I torrent'd the first season, which took a couple weeks. When I burned through those, I was anxious to get started on the second season, and I discovered that ABC.com let you stream the episodes in HD. That was awesome. I also got a friend hooked on watching the show this way. Like hell is HD-quality video with five unavoidable commercials in it 'promotional material.'
Also, I google'd a friend's name and found him on Don'tDateHimGirl.com. Haha, he hasn't changed much since high school.
This was the plan: Four months back in Alaska, to make some money and see the girl. A few days home in Portland. A month in New Orleans on a friend's couch. A week in Colorado for the Raytheon Polar Services Job Fair, and then home to Portland.
But now I discover Raytheon Polar Services is coming to me -- there's a recruitment session for working in Antarctica right here... four days after my ticket out.
This is a great opportunity. But to take it, to stay in Anchorage an extra four days, looks like it's going to cost $400+ in ticket changes and fees, more than my Anchorage-Portland-New Orleans flights cost in the first place. Or possibly more if I wait. Or possibly less if I wait and I luck into a sale.
Compare to the $120+hostel bed for the side-trip to Colorado.
What's wrong with the universe when CheapTickets.com includes one-way tickets from Anchorage to Portland that cost $900, when the ticket I bought initially cost $170?
Does anyone have an english copy of either Perceval by Chretien De Troyes or Parcival by Wolfram von Eschenbach? I'm writing an essay about borders books and I can't seem to find an ebook for this I can download in english. Help here would greatly be appreciated.
I have been cultivating and developing a severe infestation of head lurgy.
My weekend has mostly been taken up by the extraction of snot and coming up with new ways to breathe just in case I need them.
If my head becomes totally unusable I will breathe through an empty bic biro in my neck and replace my head with a large galia melon with a face drawn on with a marker pen.
i'm working a shit job in order to pay for my wedding. i work from 6 in the morning to 11 in the morning, then 6 in the evening to 11 at night, i sleep in two 4 hours shifts a day.
Hello. I got a kitten from the shelter yesterday. Named her Bit. (Anyone who can catch the reference gets brownie points.) She is currently chewing on my shiny belt. Any advice for a new cat owner?
Believe it or not, I'm writing again. And I'm not even giving a damn where. I'm using 2008 to bust out of this journal-entry, comments-section rut that I've been in for a couple of years.
Even during that rut, I was able to pull something off with the help of an artist friend.
Self-published in the motherfucking house.

Though honestly, I want to get off that tip, too. If you're the only one that publishes yourself, you run the risk of being strictly vanity-press, which is something that is made fun of. And rightfully so.
Still trying to grow that thick skin necessary. Not to mention finding a genre before they pigeonhole me somewhere.
