Yeah, it's a skip week. This one kinda blindsided us, just one of those deadlines that didn't quiiiiite go according to plan. But the GOOD news is that it's my understanding that Avatar were going to sit on these until the next skip week, and you did not want to wait for this, did you?

Seriously, is that not perty? And there's another new bag and a travel mug at the main page, oh yes.

Damn you! I had to console myself with retail therapy. There's one less Field Bag in the store.

Typically, the day before and the day after my day off were glorious weather, but my day off was wet and cloudy. So instead of going to the zoo we took Joe for his first swim. He was underwhelmed. We then went shopping, so I bought some new DM's as the re-soles are falling off my shoes. It's a short working week next week at least.

Now time for the Friday comic run. Let's see if IC2 and FA vol 2 hardback have hit GOSH!

I recommend the bag to anyone. I got the first one and carry my "man purse" everywhere. Being functional is a plus, but the real fun is explaining to the normal people out there what the hell a "Whitechapel" is. This should be even more entertaining with the word "Freakangels".

The mug is very tempting but sadly, not tempting enough for the shipping. Curses!

This week has been pretty good - I finished at my old job yesterday and the sun is shining now on the first of my four days of 'in between job' holiday while I eat fruit salad (with a lot of cream, which probably negates the healthy aspect...oh well.) and do some chores before going to an exhibition.

Oh and I beat Ticketmaster to death with a pointy stick and came out with Regina Spektor tickets for June. Zictory!

Can we get more info on the bags, like a photo of the interior, and their measurements or a sense of scale in those pictures? I really want one but I am a girl with lots of purses and I'd like to know what I'm getting to avoid functional redundancy. And are they soft canvas, or stiff? Do they have lots of pockets and things?

this week was fairly good. saw my buds' @ charlie's on wednesday. always a special time at the shop. a shout out for the operation, hope all goes well. my youngest daughter is home for awhile. she survived basic,A and jump school....i am very proud of her.
cancer still sucks but i am here, alive and kick'n; well, somewhat kick'n.
ordered a mug and a T. thanks Avatar, cool stuff.

So it's safe to assume that you will sell more bags. Lot's more bags. Why not make more? 25 is a stiff number, and I know how those bags go. You can order them by the ton, the more the cheaper, and they slap a logo on them for you. Make a hundred and release 25 a week for a month so everyone who wants one can get one. Unless you get some sort of joy out of selling eexclusive comic merchandise.

I seriously don't get the big fascination. If one is so adamant to have some FA merc, one could always make a stensil and spray paint a design on their own. Just look at the 'homemade' thread for brilliantly skillful examples. The money saved can be invested in another copy of FA volume 2... it makes a good present.

This was something I was going to suggest. Obviously the guys who currently produce them wont be too happy as they are expecting to get $30 every time they ship to England, but from the looks of the comments here they arent doing much shipping to England as it is. Which is a shame, because Id like to get my hands on some of the stuff. But when the shipping costs more than the two shirts themselves.... =(

I think for Warren and Paul though, the loss in shipping $$ will easily be made up by the higher numbers of people buying in the UK. It evens out?

It's probably much simpler to find a better courier, and charge for shipping on a sliding scale based on weight rather than a flat rate for any item. There are plenty of businesses which offer affordable international shipping, they can't all be bending over backwards with effort or doing it at a loss. I guess the problem is that this causes quite a lot of upheaval and requires work on the website. Perhaps there just isn't enough demand to justify it?

Just to add a data point... I have just created an account here just to post this comment saying that I just went to buy a bag, and probably would have picked up the paperbacks and a t-shirt or two while I was at it, but there's no way I'm paying that shipping charge.

Just an FYI, but if you really want one bad enough, just search on Amazon for "Engineer's M-51 field bag". The FA field bags are just these field bags with a FreakAngels logo on it, applied via a stencil. I suggest you print out the FA logo, glue it on a piece of posterboard, get an exactoknife and carve it out, then apply either black permanent marker or black spray paint and have your own homemade FreakAngels field bag that is identical to the one you missed out on.

Once I get mine from Amazon, I might just take pictures of me doing that so I can post it as a guide.

There's a bit of a difference between making a personal bit of swag for oneself and teaching your fellows how to make swag that directly competes with created merchandise, and possibly takes away from creator revenue. It may not seem it on casual examination, but there's a vast difference between fan-designed apparel and home-made knock-offs. It's the same as the one between mutualistic and parasitic symbiosis.

Plus, it's just bloody bad form to post instructions for replicating official merchandise ON THE OFFICIAL FUCKING FORUM. If you have an issue with price or shipping, that's fine and easily discussed/addressed if it's shared, but think about the circumstances of everyone involved before you post.

I only have an A-level in biology, so I'm pretty inept, but I'd describe the relationship as more akin to mutualism, than say - parasitism or symbiosis.

After all, even homemade-stuff, while unprofitable to you - is still in many ways free publicity, of which of course the effectiveness of this is a matter of contention.

Mutualism is a form of symbiosis in which both parties benefit as far as I'm aware, and parasitic symbiosis is where only one party benefits. Both come under the heading of symbiosis, by which I meant the relationship between fans and franchise.
I'm drawing the line here between home made imitation of existing official merchandise (being parasitic fan/franchise symbiosis), and home made original merch (being multualistic fan/franchise symbiosis).
But this analogy has gone too far.
