    Confession time: I speak fuck all Spanish and stumbled upon Narco Corridos via Breaking Bad.

    Narco Corridos are ballads (Corridso) inspired by the Narco trade.

    Here's what wikipedia has to say.

    A narcocorrido or drug ballad is a Mexican music and song tradition which evolved out of the norteño folk corrido tradition. It uses a danceable, accordion-based polka as a rhythmic base. Corridos have long described the poor and destitute, bandits and other criminals, as well as illegal immigrants to the United States.


    Here's the track that originally got me interested in Narcocorrido: Negro Y Azul (Black & Blue) by Los Cuates De Sinaloa.

    The crudity of the Narco corrido is part of its fascination for me - El Papayon Tijuana by Lupe Godinez sounds eerily like the Woodie Guthrie stuff from the 1930's.

    I guess I'm just fascinated by this whole subculture I never knew existed.

    And before anyone says it - yeah a lot of this stuff is the same sort of crap as Gangsta crap only with "viva La Raza" substituted for "Fight the power".

    at the moment i don't have time to see if these are already examples of what i'm talking about, but youtube has a few featuring autopsies of enemies and machete-severed heads; eritrea had some during their skirmishes with ethiopia a few years ago, but unconnected with the drug trade...
