Researchers using video games as an environment for training AIs have got them playing Ms Pac Man. story here
Videogames are a great place for training AIs - a restricted world with clearly defined methods for defining success or failure. I'm really interested in how AI creation has really evolved into two parts - building the guts of the AI, and the strategies for 'educating' that AI. It blurs the boundaries of programming, craftsmanship and (I suppose you'd call it) cyber-psychology. You build the mind, then work out how best to talk to it.
(unfortunate countdown until someone posts about "OMG they'll kill us all after playing quake etc etc" starts now)
