There was, way back in the mists of... 2007... a recurrent meme among several comics art blogs. Reclaiming characters from their owners, I guess it could be broadly described as... people were reimagining abused characters (chiefly Supergirl) as artistic call-and-response various places, chiefly LiveJournal. In the aftermath of that, I did a similar thing on old messageboard The Engine, called REMAKE/REMODEL. They were embraced as technical exercises, bits of fun, ways to get the brain moving. I think most people's favourite was the dear late Mike Wieringo's wondrous retro-aristo Buck Rogers...

I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character. Photography and digital art is also fine, before anyone asks.

    The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

Briefest character description ever, from a wiki squib on this public domain comics character from 1941:

Sharon Kane is the sworn enemy of all criminals. Her specially designed bracelets eject spider webbing. Her boyfriend is a detective named Mike O'Bell.

And, a relative rarity for R/R these days, an image:

On the face of it, this looks easier than the last few. But, go on... make something REALLY INTERESTING out of that... see how easy it is...!

Your task, as ever, is to re-invent that into something a 21st Century audience could enjoy.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with, but bear in mind this is an ART thread. No pen-portraits. This is ART ONLY. Posting just a bunch of text, or a scribble and a vast number of words, will get the thread closed and your account banned.

    You have one week. Go.

Well, I'm glad I'm the first, as this image won't have much legs by the time Paul Sizer and Pia Guerra get to this...but still. There was only one thing I could think of with the term Spider-Queen, and it disturbed me a little bit:

    something on those lines, maybe?

Oh, I think I'll enjoy this thread!

I took the name more literally, giving her control over spiders as well as murderous pulp vigilante tendencies.

There's a whole killed-by-corrupt-cops-and-resurrected-by-Anansi backstory in my head but it's a bit Batman Returns. The sunglasses stay on, even during her day job as a crusading Assistant DA.

Alberto: Is the webbing coming out of her vagina?

Otherwise, does it look to anyone else like SQ's hands are on the wrong sides (switched...) in the original drawing?

I'll try to get to this one early this week, as I missed last week's... mabye a combo...

Is the webbing coming out of her vagina?

Well, that could be the case. I'll leave It up to you to decide.

    Excellent Alberto!
You said it - BANG! BANG!

Damn, this is so far down my alley it's not even funny. I'll have to get on this once I get home tonight. (I would've probably had one done already but I guess I checked back before Warren posted the topic.)

    Spider Queen.

One paragraph is probably enough for most contributes, but if you want to find out more, Marvel Appendix has more background information on Spider Widow here (all the retconned parts obviously don't apply)

@frequentcontributor nah, she just has her palm out at an uncomfortable angle.

At work without Photoshop, but I was thinking about Freddie Mercury wearing a spider-shaped jesters hat for some reason.
    Oh, well.

Is the webbing coming out of her vagina?

I somehow doubt this is the first time someone on the internet has asked this.

Well, that could be the case. I'll leave It up to you to decide.

Thank you for making it even more terrifying. Lovely picture though.

Hmm...ideas are coming, but they all turn into Spider-Man clones...will have to think it through... I'd love to do this either way--even if my scanner's on the fritz.

I ended up kinda going down a Spider-Man clone alley. What *else* are you gonna do when "her specially-designed bracelets eject spider webbing"?

But hell, let's bring her into the modern age a little - replace Pete's old automatic 35mm with an iPhone, give her some cyber-arms and some scuttly little spider-bot minions. And while we're at it, let's go with the idea that trans is the new black in terms of minority inclusion and play off of that "queen" title. I'd like to think that her gender issues aren't the central narrative of the out-of-costume parts of the book but it'd probably depend on who you got to write it.

    Also, abandoned rough here.
