This morning's freshly purchased from Emusic playlist:

Kid 606 : Shout at the Döner
Somatic Responses : Reformation

Both are jumping on the Dubstep bandwagon, I think, but so far, I like it. Kid 606, brings the humor as usual, even to the Birthday Party sampling "Dancehall of the Dead", and Somatic adds some serious glitch to the dubstep sound.

A Hawk And A Hacksaw : Délivrance

Much more upbeat than their last few records.

Been browsing 433rpm, a blog specializing in cassettes. Quite a few dip into antiquity. Mostly electronic, experimental & noise, if that's your thing... Some definite gems if you dig.

As for current listening, just grabbed 'Flood' by Boris. Starts off doing the Eno ambient bit, incommensurable cycles using guitars instead of vocals, vaguely Frippy, then goes off in its own direction with heavily overdubbed, deeply resonant percussion. Heady metal indeed. Four movements in all, and all of 'em astonish.

'Cloud Chamber' by Boris w/ Michio Kurihara of Ghost is similarly worth exploring, though I'd only recommend it to those who don't mind being waterboarded with static, Merz-style. Starts off sweet & subtly psychedelic, very open, but by the end of track two you've been bukkake'd by Terminators.

Outside of that... Discovered french noiseist Vivenza via design blog Jacket Mechanical. Interesting, albeit occasionally repetitious, loop work; very industrial in the sense that you feel trapped in a fully-automated factory. 'Machines' and 'Music for Metaal' are all I've heard so far-- both available from 433rpm.

Still to beat Sun 0))) though...
Religious Girls - Religious Girls EP: the drumming on this one is rather tribal and hypnotic
Phlow Magazine presents Their Finest Hour Vol. 2: A compilation of Electronica, Techno and accoustic beats from the Phlow Magazine website which gives loads of music away for free!
Bird from the Abyss - I: Very heavy psych doom mashup
Marmaduke Duke - Duke Pandemonium : the Singer from Biffy Clyro in electronic/funk/pop shocker!

and STILL listening to the Horrors Album. the fact that it hasn´t bored me after listening to it about what feels like a gazillion times has to mean it has some good points...

Another 'Altar'-related investigation.

...A nice leisurely walk later: Jesse's vocals are soft'n'smokey, the lyrics imagist and wistful; overall, the album alternates between sparse & lush w/ the recording lovingly reproducing both the singer's & the instruments' faults, transmuting them into strengths. Striking. Country w/ the occasional rock/pop hook. Total keeper. Favorite tracks at the mo seem to be 'You Might Walk Away', 'How Will We Know', and 'Aftermath'.

Been loving "Power + Light" by 50FootWave. It's a 25 minute...song? In seven or eight movements that roll into each other and among each other in a way fitting of the band's name. What could be an EP of song ideas all become one epic monster of a song that swells and cools and swells again like a really well-thought mixtape, except it wasn't just build by one person, it was all played by one band.

There are few pieces of pop music that are over 20 minutes long (that I know of), and this is the only one I've listened all the way through and then started listening to again.

			 @joe.distort Re: CINEMA EYE-some nerve 12"

Yes. Yes. Absolutely. It's beautiful, isn't it?

If you can find their split 4 song with Audion, do so. The guys in Audion ended up joining Cinema Eye. The drummer played this little Manu Katche kit that sounded great. I talked to him (Paul) and the singer (Molly) a few times. They were very cool and super nice. One of my top 3 favorite shows ever had them open up for Aqui and An Albatross in a sweaty little basement club on like a Monday. I went alone, but the place was packed. Damn, I miss that band.

This week is all about some old Hot Snakes and Natalie Portman's Shaved Head. Those kids know how to have fun (video).

I made a wonderful discovery on Monday, whilst surfing through the Amazon new releases pages.
Moderat is the debut from producers Apparat and Modeselektor, and it's my favourite dance album of the year so far, with bits of dubstep, techno, trance and extremely accessible.
The whole album's on Spotify already, despite only being released this week.
I liked it so much, I bought it the next day...

I'm also quite liking the Polly Scattergood & School of Seven Bells albums - giving the Metric album a bit of a rest, so I don't overplay it.

EDIT - Hah, Tom, I can't believe you namechecked it while I was writing my post...

"NO MORE FEELINGS". fuck yes.

oh, also, i would like to give a heads up to noise fans for the PIG HEART TRANSPLANT album that came out. its got some "big name" (hahaha, to like 50 people) contributions from various powerviolence dudes and is PUNISHING noise, drone, ambient with violence undertones.
