I step into the office and hear:

    Heath Ledger's dead.
    Really? When?
Damn, that's fast. Are they done with Batman?
    They're in post.
I hope it doesn't delay the release.

I don't think it really matters whether or not he finished filming.

This is a terrible loss at any rate. He was one of the few actors seen in the press at the moment who does not come across as a total prick, but rather a genuine, down-to-earth guy. My heart goes out to the family.

My writing class is essentially the same reaction. Kinda sickening.

    Here's the latest I've found: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7203797.stm

Warren, in Bad Signal, said he died in one of the Olsen's apartments. THis was only a rumor, and is not true. So it's just a regular suicide, not a sleazy one.

I'm actually really sad about this, as I was always fond of Ledger, especially in Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain.

Right... the apartment is just owned by her?

So it's just a regular suicide

One of the news stations (all the same to me) said it was accidental overdose not suicide.

Not exactly only a rumor; it was in the initial police report, according to the Times. So it's the fault of the copper who got there first reporting wrong, I suppose.

How can they know? Honestly now.

If anyone's interested in discussing something other than whether or not the man's suicide was 'just a regular suicide' or 'accidental' or not, there's a great interview with him posted in the movie thread.

He doesn't seem like the kind of asshole who kills himself to leave his ex-wife alone with a 3 year old daughter.
Also, why would he do that to Terry Gilliam?
I'm just saying- IF it was a suicide, the world's a better place without that kind of douche-baggery.
If it wasn't a suicide... that's really too bad for his daughter.
IF the gay cowboys drugged his pudding cups- Then Bill Cosby is going to look bad.
And when Bill Cosby looks bad, THEN it's a tragedy.

Strange how empathy and celebrity work. We all seemed to react similarly. That it's a shame, a waste of talent and youth, and that somehow we vaguely knew the guy. A friend of a friend of a friend. That guy you had an interesting talk with at a party a long time ago.

    Don't know.

If the pop term is suicide survivor it's wholly inadequate, but I am it. The survival tag feels limp because while something internal is diseased its terminal nature is self-inflicted. No chemo or operations. Just pills, razors, or a rapid river in my case.

The only similarities in our lives is at 28 we both wanted to die. That was 8 years ago for me. The pathetic thing is that I remember the circumstances of my existence none of which seem insurmountable in retrospect. As the adage goes: permanent solution to temporary problems.

Or, as Jim Carroll wrote post-Cobain, you can negotiate with the monkey whatever your monkey is.
Maybe he should have sent a PostSecret. Then, again, maybe he did.

Guess that's why this news bugs me. I'll hit add now before I change my mind.

Don, some of us feel what you're saying. Some of us just want to make Bill Cosby jokes. Either way, it's a raw subject.

Stop by WhiteChapel Market chat sometime, Don, it'd be good to see you in there.
