    There was, way back in the mists of... 2007... a recurrent meme among several comics art blogs. Reclaiming characters from their owners, I guess it could be broadly described as... people were reimagining abused characters (chiefly Supergirl) as artistic call-and-response various places, chiefly LiveJournal. In the aftermath of that, I did a similar thing on old messageboard The Engine, called REMAKE/REMODEL. They were embraced as technical exercises, bits of fun, ways to get the brain moving. I think most people's favourite was the dear late Mike Wieringo's wondrous retro-aristo Buck Rogers...

    I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character. Photography and digital art is also fine, before anyone asks.

    The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

    This is a tough one, because it's SO fucking bad. From 1941, a character that had only three appearances. BLUE LADY:

    Lucille Martin, an adventurous novelist, was returning from a vacation in China when she met an elegant Chinese lady. This lady asked Lucille to safeguard a package for her. Also, in the event she should be meet with foul-play, deliver the package to Chin Liang in Washington, DC. The lady also gave her a bluebird shaped ring which was said to grant superpowers to the wearer. One night, the power went out and Martin knew that people had come for the package. While hiding in her bedroom she began playing with the Bluebird Ring, but it fell off and she then stepped on it in the dark. This released some of the gas within it which Lucille breathed in, not noticing until it was too late. The gas she breathed in gave her strength of ten men, resistance to up to .38 caliber bullets, and heightened reflexes. The effect lasts for at least a day.






    I suggest cranking up the Weird.

    Cool, but from a pure logic standpoint, can't she only breath in the gas once? I mean, I imagine that she stepped on the ring and broke it, releasing a dust/gas cloud, but it sort of sounds like it's more like a perfume bottle, and stepping on it just spritzed her? And why is she wearing a costume? Most people with costumes have some reason (and money...) to disguise themselves, but she's just a lady carrying a package... who's now fighting crime? ARRGHH!

    I think I've got my idea...

    Golden Age sorta Blackhawk style, with a gasmask to preserve her identity and let her huff the formic ethers whenever required. I kept the pixie boots because pixie boots are fantastic. And yes, her anatomy is terrible.

    Well, it feels like more and more amazing talent is hopping on week after week; this is becoming quite the Internet-Phenomenon. And with a subject/character as open to interpretation as this, as well as Warren's "crank the WEIRD" suggestion, I'm really looking forward to this R/R! I'm going to be busy as hell this week, this should provide some daily relief from the grind as I pop in occasionally. The Blue Lady is COMING!!

    *EDIT*: @ Frequent-Contributor: Perhaps the gas, in addition to giving her powers, makes her hallucinate things. Among them, her bat-shit crazy, super-hero, BLUE costume (so... she's not actually wearing a costume..?). Just a thought.

    when lucille martin, rock singer wannabe, breathes in the gas from her bluebird-corp filtermask and sings the magical blue note she gains superpowers and can go beat up crime's ass for a bit.

    lordmitz: Super-Nice! Looks sort of like a Bryan Lee O'Malley take on it (more in fashion and attitude than linework, per se...), by way of Akira Toriyama... I like the gasmask design.

    Greasemonkey: That's silly and hilarious, which makes it hard to be porn. Actually, the subtleties of the skin tone and pubic hair are quite nicely rendered.
