Street Sweeper Social Club - The new project from Tom Morello with Boots Riley of The Coup. They opened the NIN/JA show I saw a few days ago, and they were excellent live. Sure, it'll draw a lot of Rage comparisons, but it was damn fun to watch. Album isn't out yet, so I have to settle for Myspace tracks and the youtube video where they tear through Kick Out The Jams with Trent Reznor.

    Also:
Placebo - Battle For The Sun
Rancid - Let The Dominoes Fall
    Sonic Youth - The Eternal
Henry Rollins - Nights Behind The Tree Line
Chris Wollard - The Ship Thieves
Iron And Wine - Around The Well

Going through http://www.deletedscenesforgottendreams.blogspot.com/ , starting the week with Have a Nice Life's 'Deathconsciousness', which reminds me of Joy Division/My Bloody Valentine vinyl bullet flying straight through the heart of A Place to Bury Strangers, meeting small bits of early Coil along its way to sheer brilliance. Drone drone drone. Brain on the floor. Listen.

    Will also soon listen to:

    Kromestar - My Sound
Taphebhobia/Northaunt/Svartsinn/Mulm - Nord Ambient Alliance Tour
Montauk - The Moment Lasts a Second, but the Memory Lives on Forever
The Pistil Cosmos - Wandering in the Dark
    Peaking Lights - Imaginary Falcons

Doing Uncle Warren's bidding (a bit delayed) and listening to Florine by Julianna Barwick. I'm not huge into ambient music, but it is very good. Not any everyday listen, but for the right kind of brain-state it'll be excellent.

As I said on Twitter, it kind of reminds me of Sigur Ros, not because they sound totally alike so much as because they both sound like their target audience is primarily whales.

i am ashamed to say that i somehow did not even turn my turntable on all weekend. the only thing i listened to was about a song and a half of the new MANSON, upon which hearing "take ya downtown FROM THE INSIDE" decided that i will not be buying this one (honestly its more because the last album was not really good, but that was hilariously retarded)

Other records acquired today (it was my eMusic download refresh day):

19 (Adele) - Heard this for the first time a couple weeks ago in someone's car, and was hooked. Not a genre I am generally drawn to, but this album is so well executed that I cannot help but like it.
Heartbreaker (Ryan Adams) - What I've heard I like. People have been trying to foist him upon me for years, but I've just never quite bothered.
Doolittle (Pixies) - One of thos albums that I've known for years but never got around to acquiring for myself.
Toothbrush (Dr. Dog) - Became addicted to Dr. Dog a couple months ago via Fate. This is the third of their albums I've picked up recently.
Last The Evening (Carrie Akre) - Have had a longstanding love of Carrie, inherited from my brother, since her days with Goodness. Curious to see what new genre she takes on this time.

    Catching up!:

Bromst finally. Woosh! it is pretty great.

Akron/Family's Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free - Heck of good, y'all! I heartily recommend. Some really weird genre-swings, which are sustained by a unity of vision and quality, no-filler rock arrangements that recall for instance Mercury Rev's See You on the Other Side: disorienting but utterly satisfying. This is like seeing the building blue-printed by every crap Swan-Lake-collective album that's come out this decade, and realizing it's a fucking great building, really, when the builders know what they're doing.

Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest, after a week, is starting to sink in. Last couple songs don't deliver the luscious hidden high-points of the rest of the album, but overall when the album's On, it's Very On, and it usually is.

(PS last week's thread is still on a sticky)

i've built my music library up quite a bit recently so i'm playing catch up.

Thisquietarmy - Echotone, Unconquered and Wintersleeper
Aidan Baker and Tim Hecker - Fantasma-Paratasie
    Pelican - Ephemeral
Sunn O))) - Monoliths and Dimensions
Spacemen 3 - Taking Drugs to Make Music to take Drugs to.

Akron/Family's Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free - Heck of good, y'all! I heartily recommend.

I haven't been a fan of anything they've done since s/t and meek warrior. The first song on Set 'Em Wild grabbed me, but the rest of the record couldn't keep my attention.

@ john david - in case you might have not have heard about it, keep an eye out for 'Whisper Room' a new trio project: Aidan Baker of Nadja on guitar/effects, Neil Wiernik aka Naw on bass/laptop and Jakob Thiesen on drums.

I'm continuing my Dio/Sabbath-fest with the new Heaven & Hell - and wow it's way better than i expected.
