@icelandbob, Torche are just fantastic, I got the album about the same time i was listening to Zozobra's Harmonic Tremors album, those two on rotation are just fantastic.

@johndavid, I will hunt down some Floor stuff, sounds real interesting. thanks for that! Sleep are awesome.

Those bands plus Baroness are part of a new group of stuff coming up recently that's just been kicking faces.

some stuff you two might appreciate are: Black Sheep wall, Admiral Angry, Latitudes, Capricorns aaaaand Palehorse. face melters.

Just started listening to the new Elvis Costello, Secret, Profane And Sugarcane. Kind of a country-folkish sorta deal, produced by T-Bone Burnett. The first two songs are damn fine.

Just recently found a new band: The Octopus Project. Overheard their song "Music is Happiness" on 88.7 FM (one of the last good radio stations you can get in LA) and had to check it out. Sounds a bit like "Entroducing...."-era DJ Shadow. Worth a listen if you like his stuff.

James Brown - Funk Power 1970: A Brand New Thang

Pretty much the finest year of the man's entire career. I love the way the songs have been distilled until only the funk remains and two chords are enough for a 10 minute jam. Sparse, raw and groovy as hell.

One Day as a Lion - Zach De La Rocha and the drummer from The Mars Volta. The EP kicks all kinds of ass.

The Slow Club album: don't bother. (Pretty sure it was only me listening to them anyway, but whatever." And it leaves out "Let's Fall Back In Love" for no reason I can see. Basically, if you've heard that and "Because We're Dead," then you've heard everything you need to hear by them.
That's a shame. I've not heard the album but I saw them last year in a little club in Leeds and really enjoyed the show. Sorry to hear they don't live up to it.

I like them. Also check out the album they did with Black Moth Super Rainbow, THE HOUSE OF APPLES AND EYEBALLS.

I have been jumped by the Black Angels' 'You On The Run' off the LIMITS OF CONTROL soundtrack. Who knew the kids had chops?
