Lots of what I will call female soulpop, for lack of a better term. Adele's 19, which has stood up to repeat listenings; Last The Evening, the latest from Carrie Akre; and the old pre-release version of Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine (from back when the record company said they wouldn't release it, and then it got leaked and everyone loved it).
  4.  (6068.8)
what was on my MP3 player today....

    Colour Haze - Tempel
    Asbestoscape - Asbestoscape
Leningrad - Made in zhopa 2001
Bonnie Prince Billy - Ask Forgiveness
    The Black Angels - Passover
Der Blutharsch - Everything Is Alright
Our Survival Depends On Us - Painful Stories Told With A Passion For Life

And thanks to RevD mentioning it on last weeks thread, i managed to get hold of VA - The Limits Of Control (OST) and it´s very heavy in its doom/psych sounds, along with old flamenco folk songs. Brilliant!

I celebrated my birthday recently with large purchases of random-ish CDs as follows

    Evanescence - Open Door
not bad but serioulsy overshadowed by...

Within Temptation - The Heart Of Everything
which I have been really taken with even if it tails off at the end.

    Opeth - Watershed
Best thing they've done since Blackwater Park

    Jesu - Heart Ache
Meant to get this for ages. Justin can do very little wrong at the moment.

Devin Townsend - Ziltoid The Omniscient & Ki
Preferred Punky Bruster to Ziltoid for a story album. Ki OK but the first of four albums from the Dev this year. Bonanaza!

    Static-X - Start A War
Another solid album from the vertically hirsute one

Anthrax - The Greater of Two Evils
Always preferred John to Joey even on the old stuff, as this ably demonstrates

Stone Sour - Come What(ever) May
More Slipknot light from Corey and Paul. Easier on the ears (ish) too.

    Devil Driver - Eponymous
I miss Coal Chamber circa album #1. Welcome back Dez, this is a return to form

    Trivium - Ascendancy
Overhyped but solid album. Started nu-fretwanking phenomenon care of Dragonforce, A7X et al. Hmmph

Coheed and Cambria - No World For Tomorrow
Very very good. Prog Metal that Mastodon would love to create

Gallows - Orchestra of Wolves and Grey Britain
Very happy to have discovered OOW. Crazed mania with guitars

    Mokira - Persona
William Fowler Collins - Perdition Hill Radio
    Svarte Greiner - Kappe
Three more ambient electronica landscapes from the Type label. Still trying to find the heights of Deaf Center's Pale Ravine but good neverheless. Perdition reminiscent of Godspeed You Black Emperor

    Think thats about it

check out FAILURES! although its a bit hard to find them on the internet...in fact thats a trend i kind of like lately. bands like SEX/VID, WALLS and N.N. who make it intentionally difficult to search for them online. yes, its mildly counterproductive, but in this age where most music is disposable precisely BECAUSE its so easy to find i think its a funny development.

This is terribly embarrassing, but the Sugababes debut album has been on a loop this past week, and will likely stay on a loop this week as well. Two-step garage beats with soul vocals on top. Amazing.

@notwolf That Lucero song has got to be one of the most god damn catchy songs I've ever heard. It's always getting stuck in my head.

For some reason I've been listening to Spiritualized's "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space" all week.
Also the other night I played several hands of Gin Rummy over a bottle of scotch whilst listening to "She Has No Strings Apollo" by Dirty Three, thanks Warren!
