"Also I don't find basic Christianty to be offensive in any way, just it's current form. Christianity lost all relevance when Constantine leagalized it. Before then it was the most counter-cultural and subversive undercurrent in the Roman Empire, it was Punk Rock for the 1st century. When it became instutionalized and brought to the mainstream it was fucked up."

Personally I'm waiting for John Lydon to accept a life peerage from the Conservative Party.

    i hate hatemongers...:P

we have a preacher who visits Morehead State we all dislike greatly...but the students, turned it into a huge spectacle that envolves most of the town and has everyone up in arms for days. He stands on the free speech area and screams at passing students very fred phelps style...
    girls wearing shorts are whores
    men with long hair
    any deviation from normal basically
    gays are evil hedonistic sinners
    etc.

he made one of my friends cry because she happened to be walking to class in a pair of shorts in the middle of august...
made his very pregnant wife stay at the protest in kentucky summer heat with a very angry crowd, along with his dozen kids ranging from two to teens...

Each year the students get a little more extreme in their answering demonstrations. The queers will dress in drag, couples of all sorts will make out visibly in the crowd to piss him off. I've heard lots of plans for costumes, skits, chants, and posters.

I havent' been back to an event for a few years now. I got pretty pissed and walked off screaming his hypocritical bastardness across campus.
I didn't want to strengthen the attention he's getting anymore, but it seems that the crowd's having so much fun fighting with him now.
I think people are starting to have Anti-"forgot his name" Parties...

I find it ironic that the very thing that these idiots preach against i.e darwinism and natural selection will bring about the end of them. Think about it, given that they have such a small gene pool (especially phelps and his "church") they will probably fuck themselves into extinction. The sooner the better

Uh... If I remember right from my evolutionary bio studies, mutation happens mostly in small isolated populations, Thats why islands have so many unique species. You can select for recessive traits like blue eyes and blonde hair, but thats not evolution as much as gene selection, just like we do with domesticated dogs and cattle, so the Nazi dream is possible, just insipid.

This "church" gets waaayyyyyy too much media attention. Understanding there tactics are outlandish and made for getting this type of attention. However the group consists of 60-70 inbred dimwits. Thats it!

I'm not sure the appropriate answer to any potential picketing is to further exacerbate the situation for the grieving loved ones by responding with gay Jokers kissing or whatever.

Wouldn't Heath be buried in Perth, though?

Dracko, so we wait for Phelps' funeral. It probably isn't that far away.

An incredibly hostile biography of Fred Phelps

Probably best taken with a pinch of salt, especially as I'm too lazy to do any proper digging to try and verify the sources beyond confirming that it does represent the views of the few Phelps children to have left the church.

I skimmed through some of that. It's not at all far fetched, in my opinion. That man is sick and twisted.

Also, to add to my bit about Prussian Blue being from Fresno, there is actually a scene where it shows our Tower Theater and there is an interview in a diner in our Tower District.

So Ledger will be buried in Perth as someone suggested earlier.

Even if the Phelps gang can afford to go to Australia to picket, I doubt the Australian government will give them visas.

So the WBC statements that they would be picketed the funeral would be lies.

The highest concentration of white supremacist activity in the United States is the fair and balanced capitol of California: Sacramento. There's a lot more activity like that in this state than people seem to think, despite the fact that a good portion of central and northern California is heavily agricultural (we're the most agricultural state in the union by production). Then again, Sacramento has hardly any agriculture and is full of yuppies and Asian people, so draw your own conclusions from that.

It's awful what those Phelps people get away with. Then again, I guess if I have a right to be a left leaning independent atheist that will surely rot in hell for all eternity, it's well within their rights to be right leaning Bible thumping douche rockets that will surely rot in hell for all eternity.

I like talking to american white supremacists. Because then I can point out that considering all the american white supremacists have probably got both jewish, black, hispanic and native american somwhere in their not so long line of ancestors, the only one NOT going to the gaschambers (according to their and Hitler's way of reasoning) would be me. :D I like the look of pained indigestion that comes over their faces when I say that.

That is a silly thing to say Kristinag. Nazis are just as likely to know their genealogy as anyone maybe more so. People with red hair for example are very unlikely to have anything but white genes. There are so many holes in the neo nazis beliefs that saying things like "most of them are not even white" just ruins our credibility. It is hard for us to comprehend just how rare mixed race relationships were 50 to 100 years ago.

Oh look, the Rev Phelps is an anti-Semite as well as a homophobe.

    http://www.adl.org/special_reports/wbc/wbc_on_jews.asp

"Homosexuals and Jews dominated Nazi Germany...just as they now dominate this doomed U.S.A...."

It's actually not that easy to trace the history of "mixed race relationships" since (a) race is a cultural construct; (b) the rules of hypodescent in the US created the need for people to perform a number of tactical kinship maneuvers such as obfuscate their genealogies to "pass"; and (c) purity is/was a power category that many people aspired to and selectively applied. The holes in neo-nazi beliefs are holes precisely BECAUSE most of of them are not "white" and such categorizations are based on highly subjective criteria, as are their supposedly pure genealogies.

DNA testing can determine race makeup. I was watching PBS and they did random testing on 20 people. Out of the 20 people 17 had a gene specific to the middle-east, and slightly over half had a gene specific to Africa. You might not be able to discover specific relatives, but you can determine your genetic heritage. I think the part that really surprised me was how they could date when said gene was introduced into your family.

    http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,21206707-2,00.html

FORMER One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, the outspoken proponent of polarising immigration policies, has discovered she is of Middle Eastern heritage.

Ms Hanson said she was "amazed" and "mystified" to learn of her ancestry.

A recent DNA swab, taken with Ms Hanson's permission by The Sunday Mail, has revealed the controversial former MP's genetic makeup is drawn from a rich multicultural background, with 9 per cent originating in the Middle East, 32 per cent from Italy, Greece or Turkey and 59 per cent from northern Europe.

Not many people realise that circa 1500 one quarter of the population of Spain were "Conversos" - Sephardic Jews who adopted Christianity after the Reconquest.

Give it a few generations of intermarriage and virtually the entire Spanish population is part-Jewish -as are their descendants in the New Wo9rld and places like Ireland (thousands of survivors from the Spanish armada ended up shipwrecked in Ireland where they eventually intermarried with the local Catholics).

I have to wonder how much it pisses off Dick Cheney that he shares DNA with Barack Obama. I have this visual of Cheney running around his residence at the United States Naval Observatory while bitching about being related to an African-American, but somehow I am sure he is using the N word.

I'm not sure what you guys imply by neo-racial types. In my experience, the racial heritage or supremacist crowd are likely to investigate such things as ascendancy and progeny. It's fairly impressive how much attention they give to it, on a certain level. They also tend to think in surprisingly broader terms, such as panaryan. So Orientals fall under the spectrum of the supposed Master Race. I'm sure there would be a lot to investigate as far as the "accepted" umbrella goes, and how much of that is accountable to a modern, globalised vision. From their accounts, it dates back to WWII's Germany/Japan dalliance, which is a bit hard to see, considering how difficult a pill that was to swallow even back then.

On the one hand, I'd say it's a bit of a mistake to dismiss the group as a whole, because the weirdness of their approach to a global racial tolerance - just imagine how weird it is for a white supremacist to rationalise getting along with a black person, because they do have to daily - does have a bizarre global insight to it all. It's awfully strange, on the whole.

Either way, Phelps' groups is altogether boring in any respect. Not much of a fuss should be granted to them. Glad to hear Ledger will get a homeward burial.
