I admit it, I was bored.

I've been going through the Freakangels GNs and have identified a number of locations and stuck them on a google map which is here

I've marked the first appearance that a location can be identified from the website

I think that Connor's place is elsewhere, as there is a later shot, just before he goes to the Freak Cave where he is leaving somewhere else. It looks a bit like Folgate Street, but I'm not certain.

I suspect that Caz is probably setup in the Truman Brewery, and think that I should be able to find the pier.

Any feedback? Should I setup a key (e.g. Freakangels locations, other locations, recognised landmarks, etc)

Well congratulations, this thread finally pushed me to join Whitechapel after a lengthy existence as a lurker :)

Being an obsessive geography nerd I've been plotting FreakAngels locations in Google Earth right from the very start...

Direct link to the kmz file

I've made a large number of totally unreasonable assumptions for this project, many of which are being demolished as Warren and Paul drip feed us more data. In particular I had Sirkka and Caz's places completely wrong - I've fixed this in the latest version with appropriate credits to Dan and Ariana. I also think I might have a bead on the location of the dock, although I haven't put it in the file yet...

Corrections and feedback are welcome. I'll be visiting London in a few months and intend to try and visit as many FreakLocations as time allows.

I've been using http://flood.firetree.net/ for flooding data because it's easy and (most importantly) free. It should be noted however that it's relying on Google's elevation data which is only accurate to within 16 metres, and tends to get confused by clusters of tall buildings.

I seem to recall Warren mentioning flood risk maps at one point, so I'd guess he has access to much better data than we peasants.

 Cool

re: Truman Brewery - I agree with you that it seems an awful long way from Caz's to the dome and also that it's on the wrong side of Whitechapel, assuming that the land between Commercial Street and the Freakcave are intact. However it's proximity to the heart of Whitechapel and it's significance (big sunday market etc) in real life make it a good candidate.

As for the Dock, I've thought the same, but there were a couple of things that made me think otherwise...

Finally, I'm yet to decide whether the Whitechapel logo here has any significance being centered on Aldgate, rather than Spitalfields...

Not to mention that a brewery would have plenty of big metal stills and piping to cannibalize for water purification. The brewery is such a good candidate that until further evidence turns up I'm willing to write the Millennium Dome view off as an early episode teething problem.

Do you have any other ideas on the dock location? I've been wandering all around the area in streetview and Cobb Street is the best candidate I've found (not to say it's a great candidate).

I've always assumed the logo is centred where it is so it can show Commercial Street (the centre of FreakAngels territory) and Whitechapel High Street (to get Whitechapel in there), but I could be very wrong.

@UrbanAngel - Just near where I've placed (admittedly with almost no evidence) Miki's clinic.

Haha, wow this is awesome :)
It's nice to see the locations recognised.
Just a quick not in general so people don't drive themselves into distraction trying to find fictional locations:
Connor's house doesn't have a real-life London location, although it's meant to be in Whitechapel. Likewise Miki's clinic (although there's a street around the back of her clinic that I've used a few times that's based on a street in Oxford) The pier for Jack's Boat doesn't have a real location, although it's between the Thames and Whitechapel on our fictional new shore-line. Caz's water factory also has a fictional location (most places on the 'new shoreline' will, since I have to bend a few rules in order to show more than a street's worth of river at any one time. I also have to simplify a lot of details on street scenes just to save on time.

At some point after the episodes involving Shoreditch park, street view london was launched, and I was blessed with as much reference as I can get my grubby mits on, so many in-between locations are real streets beyond this point... for example, the exodus out of Shoreditch goes through real locations on a route I chose between Shoreditch and Whitechapel, and the house in which Miki finds Kait with the dead body is really someone's house (right down to the remnants of some lace curtains). If anyone's got enough spare time, they should be able to track down some of these.

EDIT: I'd point them out myself, but I don't actually keep an exact note of non-recurring locations.

Awesome - we have guidance from the masters!

Cheers for all the info Paul. I'll update the map to reflect the locations that don't have real life parallels - although I'll probably still waste my time trying to guess where they would be if they did. I'll need to take another look at the streets between Shoreditch and Whitechapel - I did some vague zooming around previously but now that there's confirmation of the reality of the scenes the hunt is on. The same for the murder house (that's gonna be a challenge... ).

(Obsessed? Moi? :)

Thanks also to our Lord and Master Ellis for lifting the creative veil ever so slightly.

EDIT: Oh, better not let the inhabitants of Broughton hear about this. It's bad enough that Streetview lets burglars case their houses without comic artists putting grisly, fictional murders in them.

re: Truman Brewery - I agree with you that it seems an awful long way from Caz's to the dome and also that it's on the wrong side of Whitechapel, assuming that the land between Commercial Street and the Freakcave are intact. However it's proximity to the heart of Whitechapel and it's significance (big sunday market etc) in real life make it a good candidate.

This is cool! Love the maps.

When I saw Kait's pit last week, I wondered if it might've been part of the Truman Brewery. If you look at the piccies on page 5, there's what seems to be a bit of a chimney in the top left corner.
