It seems to be vogue to have a meetup and there are quite a few whitechapel people outside of London. How does a meetup somewhere in the Midlands sound?

I'm thinking one Birmingham, Leicester, or Nottingham as the road and rail links to each of the cities is pretty good.

    Anyone interested?

The meeting will take place on the 18th of July at 3PM in Nottingham. Meet at the "Left Lion" and look for Whitechapel symbols.

Or how about a "UK: North" meet if this doesn't get rolling? I'm North West based now, dunno how many other Whitechapellers are around these parts...

EDIT: Coz Firefox dies on me when I try to see the member map...

Anything fairly close to Edinburgh is good for me. ^_^

I'd be open to something more northern.

Firefox also catches fire for me when I try and see the member map as well.

I guess Ediburgh-Nottingham is about 3 hours or so on the train, which is a bit far for a day out for me, but if it's in Manchester or - better yet - Newcastle, I'd be totally up for it. OR if I had access to free accomodation so I could go home the next day.

(Obviously, I'm not trying to dictate where this place should be. I'm new here and carry no illusion of having sway on the forum, so I'm just airing what would be good for me.)

Definitely should be nottingham - we have a ready-made meeting place (the left-lion, market sq.) that is brilliantly well-served for public transport - bus or tram, and better still, it's only 20mins from my doorstep.

EDIT: Coz Firefox dies on me when I try to see the member map...

    Yeah me too.

nottingham market square is only 30 mins from my doorstep atm, and there are tons of lovely pubs.

birmingham, leicester etc is also doable. Further north than that gets a bit pricier, will take longer to plan etc.

London is also good for me.

The way the trains are, midlanders will find it quicker and cheaper to head south than north. It's something like four hours from Nottingham to Newcastle by train (endured that several times when visiting a now-ex some years ago).

I vote Nottingham. Because I live 10 mins from the city center, woo!

Nottingham isn't bad for me. It's not much harder for me to get to Nottingham than Leicester.

Booger... Nottingham is an arse to get to for me BUT if that's where the majority is swaying to, then.... I agree it has lots of good pubs, though...

Obviously I sway towards a Manchester meet but Nottingham is a much nicer place...

I mentioned the left lion as a good meeting spot. He has a twin in the lesser loved right lion:

    @sneak046 Love that.

Right, so who's sorting a date then? :)

Well a Saturday would be the best and most practical day.

    When? I don't know.

Saturday PM's is best for me, and as for a date - well I'm pretty open to offers, I've a friends wedding on 1st August but other than that there's nothing I can't bump to another day/weekend...might I also suggest we hold a Whitechapel invasion of the ever friendly Page 45 to see if through force of arms we can demand discounted Elliswares.

@Runcibleshaw - Captain Midlands is a Brummie - round these parts that's nearly as bad as being a Sheepshagger Derby resident.

For a true Notts superhero I would go for Xylophone Man - though his only superpower was to smile inanly and hit the same 5 notes on his toy instrument ..

I'd best throw a date outI. How does the 18th of July sound? Too close, too far away?

@runcibleshaw - If the current heatwave persists I'm not likely to be dressed at all.
