There was, way back in the mists of... 2007... a recurrent meme among several comics art blogs. Reclaiming characters from their owners, I guess it could be broadly described as... people were reimagining abused characters (chiefly Supergirl) as artistic call-and-response various places, chiefly LiveJournal. In the aftermath of that, I did a similar thing on old messageboard The Engine, called REMAKE/REMODEL. They were embraced as technical exercises, bits of fun, ways to get the brain moving. I think most people's favourite was the dear late Mike Wieringo's wondrous retro-aristo Buck Rogers...
I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character. Photography and digital art is also fine, before anyone asks.
The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

Another gem from Jess Nevins that should keep you busy until Sunday:Locke, Quentin. Quentin Locke (played by Harry Houdini) was created by Charles Logue and appeared in The Master Mystery (1919). Quentin Locke is a Federal Agent (for the Department of Justice) who takes on the gang known as International Patents, Inc., who are dedicating to stopping social progress and who are led by Q the Automaton, an evil (albeit clunky) robot. (Okay, technically speaking he's a man in a metal suit.) Q the Automaton has on his/its side the Dictagraph, an advanced eavesdropping device, DeLuxe Dora, a femme fatale, and the rare Oriental poison, Dhatura Stramonium, but they're all no match for Quentin Locke, an escape artist extraordinaire and creator of an explosive bullet which puts paid to Q.
Not especially interested in Locke, though feel free to have fun with that if you like. Another link adds another member to International Patents:the "Madagascar Strangler"

I probably won't draw anything because I can't do anything beyond stick figures. That said, I'm glad this is posted because I never knew that Harry Houdini starred in films. Were they all silent films?

Since the last was made in 1923 according to his IMDb profile it would seem so. There are some recordings of his voice, but not in his films.

Just a quick one from me:
Sorry about the awful pic quality. My bloody scanner isn't working for some reason so I did the best I could with camera phone and fiddling with the levels. The story title, obscured by shadow, is "Patents Pending!" and top right is my take on Dictagraph.
Right, I'm off to use my special fixing-hammer on my scanner. If I get it working I'll update here with a better pic.
UPDATE: Nope, scanner is completely broken. Oh well, haven't used the thing in 18 months. Anyway, we've got, L-R, Strangler, body-dysmorphic former catwalk model turned tech-genius (after her diet made her hair fall out) Automaton Q, Femme, and Dictagraph replete with CCTV cams. -
