@pi8you: He's certainly a far cry better than Pierce Brosnan, in my opinion. Of course, John Candy's exhumed brain attached to conjoined twin pitbulls would show off more Bond-ishness than Brosnan, so I guess the bar was a bit low.

The other title that they've got left is 'The Property of a Lady'.

Or they could simply go eponymous and call it "James Bond" or post-ironic with "My name is..."

Peter O’Toole is my favorite actor since I was about 6 and mom plunked Lawrence of Arabia into the (rented) VCR.

Quantum of Solace doesn't strike my fancy as far as names go. I would have preferred James Bond: This Movie is Not Enough. Or Perhaps James Bond: The franchise will Never Die. The word Solace just doesn't seem to imply the actiony, 'splody, violent fun inherent in most Bond films; it seems to lack a bit of punch to it. To me, the title itself doesn't actually say much. C'mon, lets just plunk in a big, techy sounding word : Quantum, and smash it together with some mood-evoking word:solace, and BOOM, insta-luv.
I'm sure they put more thought into it than that, but... that's what I'm getting from just looking at the title. As of yet, I have not looked at information regarding the movie's casting or plot, and I have not read any of the books; my thoughts may change upon input of new information.

I don't have any actual opinion, as of yet, on the movie itself.

I may be the only one alive that actually despised the last Bond film. Far, far, far preferred Brosnan as Bond. Daniel Craig managed to strip every bit of the character away and gave us a generic thug. And I say this as a fan of EVERY Bond film that preceeded it, even the worst of the Roger Moore fluff.

But Bond is a thug. State-sponsored fantasy that he may be.

Dracko, I agree.

The reason Casino Royal worked is that it was Bond as the bastard that Ian Flemming wrote about.

Dracko, agreed too.

I think it's bad, but I don't think it's end of the world/franchise bad. You just have to imagine it being read by the movie trailer guy. It's not Quantum of Solace. It's QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

They're still using the movie trailer guy? I don't remember hearing his voice in any trailer in the last three years...

"James Bond: Moment of Peace"?

Or does that sound a bit like James has become a father of several noisy teenagers?

How long until we get the adventures of the young James Bond on screen?

Finally got off my bum to look at the Wikipedia article on it and got this:

"Quantum of Solace" is not a spy story and Bond appears only in the background. Told in the style of W Somerset Maugham, the tale has Bond attending a boring dinner party at the Government House in Nassau with a group of socialites he can't stand.

Sounds more like Dinner from Hell to me.

I'm rather curious to know what went through the author/publisher/whoever picked the name out for the book's mind when it was done and the reasoning behind it. Same goes for the movie.
