    Today we're having a bit of FREAKANGELS behind-the-scenes.

    It's a long weekend here in the States, where we all celebrate the UK letting us believe we didn't need them anymore -- so I'll hear no whining about not getting your UK written/drawn/coloured comic, today. I'd forgotten about the holiday until Warren asked on twitter what everyone was doing for the weekend, so you can guess at my plans (hint: it involves not sleeping much and making up for it with caffeine and nicotine) -- how about all of you? (Outside-the-US folks still get at least the standard two-day weekend, so you can answer, too...)

    Cheated with the url. Slightly disappointed, because was waiting to see what the pool was about actually.
    But, otherwise this insight is very interesting and i guess many fellow denizens will be glad to take a look under the hood.

    Paul's style is great, and that he'll be able to do more stuff is nice. Looking forward to it.

    Hey! Nice. I always think it's fun to get some insight into how things are done.

    As for me, I'm into my second week of being sick and getting nearly nothing done. I spend too much time at home, which leads to too much time in front of the computer and then the sun is suddenly starting to pop out from below the horizon. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm getting better. Very slowly, but better.

    Welcome to the team, Kate! Nice to meet Paul's girly :D
    I did notice a change on the shot you've chosen for the newest wallpaper, how the colours looked a little lighter than usual, almost a bit cartoonish. Not a criticism, just something I noticed! Thought it was me being silly but I didn't know about the background changes.

    I loves me a good making-of. So I can live with the skip-week.

    My plans for the weekend? Staying inside, despite the brilliant summer weather, and playing around with my newly revitalized PC. Also, continuing the Veronica Mars and Alias marathons.

    ...what? Yes, I am in fact that boring. And geeky.

    Also, I continue to be the only Dane in the 18-35 demographic not attending Roskilde Festival.

    The process geek in me loved the insight into how thing work. The wannabe colourist in me also. However the Freakangels fan really wanted to see what happens next. But more Duffield loveliness beckons and that is good

    As for weekend, I'll shall enjoy having the internet to myself :-D
    I will also hopefully join the rest of Britain in it's foolish hope the we have someone able to win Wimbledon

    Oh, sorry, yes, weekend plans - not going out because I have to get a train tomorrow at 9am!! to go visit my friend and help her plan her wedding. Not my favourite activity ever. Return on Sunday evening. w00t. Not.

    Can you add these behind the scenes on the trades/HCs?

    While almost everyone I know is already on vacation, I have to stay indoors studying for more exams next week… At least the weather is not that good to go out, take that you hard studying folks (*sigh* back to the books)

    OK then, yes! More time for speculation!

    Fascinating look at the process Paul - I'm particularly impressed by the use of 3d models (I'm probably way behind the times on that, but I'm still impressed).

    As for the weekend I have plans to get up early tomorrow and haul about 10kg of loose change to the bank (which mercifully is just down the street). In reality I'll probably sleep until midday and have to wait until next weekend instead.

    Very interesting to see the process behind the art. Just recently experimented a bit with line art in Photoshop myself, but nowhere near that sophisticated. And by the way, hi to all of you. First post, and all, you know.

    Wow! Thanks for the behind the scenes, Paul! Spiffy wallpaper, too.

    Content-wise, I found the line art layer being set to multiply as the most interesting bit. I've always had a problem with my own coloring looking a little to cartoon-y, so maybe that's another step along the way. Really, between you and Sizer, I've learned more about coloring than in half a dozen "how-to" books. Now I just need to practice it. And maybe learn anatomy and perspective properly...

    My weekend? My parents are coming down to visit. It'll be the first time we've seen them since we moved to Indiana in December. They're bringing my daughter with them. (She was spending most of June with my in-laws.) I'm still not sure how to explain being unemployed to them. "I've written some stuff that I might actually be able to publish" doesn't really seem to jive with people who thought I'd be mission control of a NASA mission one day.

    Finally, Ariana, how much lettering do you do? Seifert says you do Ignition City, also. Is there anything you can't do? I submit that "Chief Mechanic" should be amended to "Chief Mechanic/Miracle Worker".

    Lettering is a team effort at Avatar. I've probably touched most anything you've read in the past year+, but quite often I get a bit carried away with being a mechanic and crowbar in balloons as they make sense to my... practical aesthetics. Fortunately, Mark is around to quietly erase those and replace them with something more appropriate for comics before they go to press...!

    My weekend: I have to work on the 4th ( no holiday pay either, waa! ), so I'll count myself lucky if I can grab a beer and a hot dog after work. When I think about all the dead Englishmen my forefathers had to wade through just so I'd have the freedom to wave a sparkler around in the air while drinking cheap beers, the great swell of pride within me makes me want to burn this place to the ground for making me come in. Sunday I plan on relaxing with Bob Dylan's autobiography with some ice tea and vodka.

    You learn something new every day. Today I learned what a flatter does. I've heard the term but didn't know what it meant. Much as I (like everyone else, I suspect) want to see what happens next, the behind the scenes look was pretty nifty. You're an amazing team. All of you. And the frame used to demonstrate is a cool one, too. Wet Kait cracks me up!

    Today, I'm making red velvet cupcakes with white frosting and blue sprinkles. Red, white and blue. Also tasty! And I'm going to tackle the Pit of Despair that is my office to find stuff to sell at the yard sale. Which does not involve selling the yard. It's tiny, and how would you transport it? Though if I had a yardstick, I'd have it out for the joke. Not sure what I'm doing Saturday evening. It will involve beer, that's for sure. And what more do you need, really?
