    There was, way back in the mists of... 2007... a recurrent meme among several comics art blogs. Reclaiming characters from their owners, I guess it could be broadly described as... people were reimagining abused characters (chiefly Supergirl) as artistic call-and-response various places, chiefly LiveJournal. In the aftermath of that, I did a similar thing on old messageboard The Engine, called REMAKE/REMODEL. They were embraced as technical exercises, bits of fun, ways to get the brain moving. I think most people's favourite was the dear late Mike Wieringo's wondrous retro-aristo Buck Rogers...

    I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character. Photography and digital art is also fine, before anyone asks.

    The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

    ---

    "Adam Mann is conducting experiments with the radioactive isotope Uranium-235, and is caught in a "weird chemical accident" giving him atomic powers. He uses these powers to covertly fight crime and Communism as Atomic Man. His powers include super strength, flight, and projecting energy blasts from his right hand. To control and neutralize his power, he wears a lead glove over his hand and takes it off when he wants to turn the powers on. "

    That's all I'm giving you.

    Your task, as ever, is to re-invent that into something a 21st Century audience could enjoy.

    I look forward to seeing what you come up with, but bear in mind this is an ART thread. No pen-portraits. This is ART ONLY. Posting just a bunch of text, or a scribble and a vast number of words, will get the thread closed and your account banned.

    You have one week. Go.

    Having googled for our hero's appearance I'm torn between Remake and Remodel. That original costume is awesomely goofy. And so impractical for crime fighting.

    I will regret that haircut for the rest of my fucking life.

    HAHAHAHAHAH

    Never regret a mushroom-cloud shaped mullet, Andre. NEVER.

    Although it does kind of make him look like an atomic-powered porn star, which conjures up phrases like 'Lead Love Glove' and 'Irradiating Fist'.

    If I had a shred of artistic talent I'd have taken a pass on looking at that link in order to come up with something not influenced by it, but I'm free of that worry so I peeked. Nice as that cover is, this one kicks its head in. I have no idea what's happening there but it's terrifyingly awesome.

    In regards to AM's original appearance (in the old comic covers from the above link...), I guess I don't really get what Adam Mann was thinking... Why is he dressed like a character out of (Frank Miller's) 300? What do atomic power and ancient Greece have in common?

    Anyway, I'm really digging the concept of lugging around a large lead suit to contain his radioactivity... like the opposite of Iron Man: A suit to protect people from his terrible power instead of a suit used to help people.

    I was a little tired of drawing dudes for the thread, so i done swap something with this weeks one. Can you spot it?
  8.  (6355.11)
    I've done my sketches for this one - hopefully tonight - scan, ink and tone

    @Andre Navarro
    That hair is awesome!
  9.  (6355.12)
    @Andre Navarro - Atomic power - over your hair!

    @Jack Crowder - Nice contrast between Adam's "civilian" identity and the irradiated power of Atomic Man!! (That name just demands exclamation points.)

    @stsparky - Darn those evil atomic fathers!

    @awesomecake - I'm tempted to change the sex of the characters on all future Re/Res.

    I'm sorry, the superhero wearing a glove over one hand bit immediately made me flash on the late Michael Jackson.

    @Miranda's Eyes - start drawing :)

    @Andre Navarro: this is going to get mentioned a lot, I know, but I have to say, the hair is such a massively awesome touch.

    @Jack Crowder: I really like the simplicity of this, especially how Atomic Mans looks with powers.

    @stsparky: this feels so trippy!

    @awesomecake: Nice! Feels big, powerful. Bright!

    Holy shit biscuits!

    I swear this is just like the comic chracter I used to draw as a kid. I 'made him up' after watching the Flash get created in a chemical explosion on the TV show. But I called him 'Atomic Radiation Man' or something. He was crime fighter along side my other heroes 'Catman' and 'the Human Shield' who was basically a Captain America rip off :P

    @Awesomecake: nice tight top...

    @Jackcrowder: Cool hoodie

    This might be my most off-model R/R yet, apart from the time I split Octobriana into two people.

    So he's a radioactive nuclear scientist who hates Communism...

    Here's a quick little something before I go think up Atomic 'man' ...let me just hit the 'gender switch' here: *click*

    Just some ideas I had for the remake that I thought I'd try on our model Atomic Babe here.

    A scientist is caught in an accident and is left with superhuman powers which he uses to fight Communism.

    Didn't Alan Moore already beat us to this one?

    @Oxbrow - Oh yes! Atom age vengeance!

    @zombieinzen - I like her skeletonized right hand.
