    Alright, I did a search on both topics and comments and didn't see anything. I really have to believe that this has already been discussed here, because this is the first community I thought of when I heard this music, but I can't find it. So apologies if this is a duplicate.

    The band is The Clockwork Quartet.

    It's steampunk music (violin, cello, accordion, typewriters and ticking watches for percussions, etc - distinctly different from electric/rock music that happens to be about airship pirates) that is available for free. Only two songs so far, but I rather like both of them. They're also Creative Commons, I'm sure they'd be pleased to hear anything the folks in this community could dream up.

    The concept of the band is that the music describes each of the passengers on a train running between London and Dover. Give it a listen, support creative projects.

    Very strong sense of narrative. I'd love to hear a whole album based around that concept, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on their releases.

    I love the instrumentation they've chosen too. I'm a fan of quirky, modernized klezma music and other traditional eastern european styles that are used to either make comment on current musical trends or else reinvigorated by modern musical ideas to dust off the traditional styles a bit. There are definitely a few elements of that going on here...

    Listening. I'm a fan. The narrative I'm enjoying quite a bit. I've always loved narrative songs and looking at the others in the character section has me waiting for more. Already made the downloads, and have shown them off to a few friends of mine that also enjoy interesting styles going on here.

    They remind me of everything I like about the Decemberists, with a bit tighter focus on storytelling. I really liked The Doctor's Wife - thanks for pointing them out!

    I'm glad everyone likes it so much. I was half expecting to get yelled at with either "We heard about this AGES ago, noob!" or "This belongs in ______ new band compilation thread, stop spamming the boards, noob!"

    Actually, I think I'll put it there, too. Perhaps a few over there that wouldn't catch this. And, as I want to hear more from them, I'm interested in getting them as many followers as possible.

    I don't know anything else quite like this.

    However, some of Voltaire's music is similar. Ex-Lover's Lover, The Man Upstairs, When You're Evil in particular. He's more goth than steampunk, but uses similar instruments - acoustic only, nothing electric. More strings. His latest album includes trumpets. If you've watched Billy & Mandy's Grim Adventures and heard the "Land of the Dead" theme song - that's him.

    Then there's a group that claims the steampunk title, but, to be frank, I have to call bullshit. That group is Abney Park, and they do pretty generic electronic music with a middle eastern vibe. If that's your thing, you'll like 'em. It's not my thing, and the fact that they sing songs about being airship pirates and wear goggles doesn't really change that the music is generic electronic music with a middle eastern vibe.

    There's Dr. Steel who does a better job of peppering his music with appropriate elements, but, he's hip-hop with a steampunk theme. He uses the exact same techniques any other hip-hop artist uses, he just samples in a few thematic sounds here and there.

    The last thing that comes to mind is Emilie Autumn. She doesn't even, to my knowledge, call herself steampunk. I just heard a lot of steampunk fans refer to her. A lot of her outfits have that aesthetic to them, and she's very talented, but I wouldn't call it steampunk music.

    So short answer - if you're looking for more of this you are, to my knowledge, out of luck until they release more.

    I've listened to this a few more times, Watchmaker's Apprentice really does it for me....killer watches are awesome.

    I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.
    Love them. Listen to both their songs quite a bit. Watchmaker's apprentice is my favourite of the two even though the Doctors wife has a nice dark edge to it.
