There was, way back in the mists of... 2007... a recurrent meme among several comics art blogs. Reclaiming characters from their owners, I guess it could be broadly described as... people were reimagining abused characters (chiefly Supergirl) as artistic call-and-response various places, chiefly LiveJournal. In the aftermath of that, I did a similar thing on old messageboard The Engine, called REMAKE/REMODEL. They were embraced as technical exercises, bits of fun, ways to get the brain moving. I think most people's favourite was the dear late Mike Wieringo's wondrous retro-aristo Buck Rogers...

I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character. Photography and digital art is also fine, before anyone asks.

The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

Hahaha I am a bastard. From BLUE BEETLE #9, in 1941;

Jack Castle was both a drunk and assistant to a mad scientist. He is knocked unconscious by the mad doctor, so Castle would not reveal the nature of the doctor's experiments to Elsa, the doctor's niece. Castle's brain is removed and then placed into the body of a gorilla. When he awakens from his operation, he seeks revenge. First, he kills the mad doctor, and then goes after his assistants hoping to be cured of his affliction.

I include no art in this. If you search out art from Google, I will delete it.

I give you nothing but the above to work on.

Agreed; in a lesser thread, this could become just repetitious, but with a little of the old "Whitechapel" creative imaging techniques, I see a massive amount of possible directions coming from the brain trust here. Let us have it!

Posting mid-week, hopefully, as we have house-guests, including a 7 year old who will ask constant annoying questions like "Why are you drawing that gorilla with a whiskey bottle?" My answer, of course, will be "Because a magical man from the internet told me to, now piss off!"

@SJordan - thanks... I almost didn't include it, and then I was like "What the hell." And then I was forced to break my Frank Miller by not using straight yellow for the vomit, because the vomit and the urine would be the the same color, and that's just a little too gross. We have to have standards here.

@ SJordan; I’ve been experimenting with color during these R:R pieces. Usually, I like to go with the post 90s animated palette. Where nothing is ever vibrant but dark. I changed that up with this one because I don’t see that palette working with livestock of any kind.
@ David Lee Ingersoll; The Frankenstein hodgepodge look really scores highly for me. Your lines are so loose and free. ‘makes me envious that I can’t be as free with the pen as you seem to be.

@ Kieran: Never underestimate the weirdness that has build Fluide Glacial, or l'echo des Savanes, for that matter. I haven't read one in years, but I keep on being a fan of the 1970 version...so many crazy things to read, Neal Adams doing Super-Dupond teaming-up with his US-counterparts (spitte-man, Gorgeous Woman and so on), Wally Wood on Alice in Wonderland, Jim Starlin on drugs to fight a master-of-the-universe version of death...great days...
