@Fauxhammer: I use a combination of Blabbermouth, Bruce Dickinson's Friday Rock Show, Terrorizer Magazine and the hashtag #metal on twitter. @joe.distort: me linking it. Never heard of'em
Plastic gods - Doom/Sludge metal. Know the bass player very well. Very popular with the metal scene here
severed crotch - Probably the best death metal band in Iceland at the moment. And i also know the bass player here very well also!
Swords of chaos - screamo Hardcore punk. Seen as the local next big thing...
and last but not least Myra who are my mates band. Only do 3 shows a year, but they do a very nice line in alternative metal (i.e. - very quiet to start, builds to shattering noise)
@joe.distort I can see what you mean after checking out all those bands. Thanks! I wasn't that aware of this "non-straight-up-metal" new genre :) @icelandbob OH! metal from iceland... will certainly and carefully check it out.
@icelandbob - Love the Plastic Gods track. I'm a sucker for some metal sludge. Ever check out Yob? Great local doom metal band that made it biggish before breaking up.
@joe.distort - Liked the Landmine Marathon stuff. Thanks for that. Ghengis Tron was a sweet treat too.
@Fauxhammer Liquid Metal's still kicking. I've heard of Winds of Plague for the first time through there. Unfortunately, after watching the video, I want to stab the lead singer in the head with a soldering iron.
(As mentioned in another thread,) I've been on a huge sludge fest lately. So it's been all:
Melvins Buzzoven Crowbar Acid Bath Iron Monkey
Along with assorted other bands that sort of orbit the sound, Soilent Green, Neurosis, etc.
well if we can throw in HOLY MOLAR and THE BLOOD BROTHERS, straight up emo-violence, than my suggestions dont go TOO far astray.
NEIL PERRY JOSHUA FIT FOR BATTLE THE ASSISTANT KAOSPILOT PHOENIX BODIES FAILURES
and if you were into that LANDMINE MARATHON stuff, they just started their tour this week up the west coast with BOOK OF BLACK EARTH. check it! they are killer. and grace loves SPARKS- you wont be disappointed hahaha.
@sleestak There's very good stuff to be found on the New Wave of Thrash... love Evile from the UK and Municipal Waste from the US. Here's two more: Ramming Speed Evil Army
Kylesa's last album (Static Tensions) is one of the only "metal" albums I've bought in years. It is just great.
If we're coutning The Blood Brothers in this area (I disagree, but whatever) then I recomend An Albatross, especially Blessphmy, though Family Album has The Electric Proletariat Rides a Velvet Chariot, which is made of awesome *ahem* rawk!
Moletopopolis by Deathmøle (QC creater Jeph Jaques ficitional band) is pretty cool. Metal instrumentals about unicorns.
