@Mike Black - heh ... "rethrash" is a great term.
I am all about this new wave of thrash metal bands. I posted most of the ones you mentioned in your post, but hadn't heard of Toxic Holocaust, so thanks for that.
I've always loved that raw energy that I've always associated with bands like these.

theres a lot of those bands that i know and always forget because its not really my style. EVIL ARMY was through recently and...and....shit. total loss. i will try harder.

    oh yeah BATTLETORN.

I think that's my favorite thing about thrash. There's a wild abandon there that no other form of metal has been able to replicate (with the possible exception of grindcore.) It's a great genre, unfortunately for a long time there were really only 6 or 7 solid thrash bands.

I saw Slayer and Soilent Green in a 500 person capacity club. That kicked ass.

its really funny to me that THRASH is a name for this type of metal, as well as no-frills fast 80s style hardcore punk. i vastly prefer the latter, but it makes for confusing conversations sometimes.

@joe.distort Well, it's closer to "crossover" (the hybrid of hardcore and metal,) than anything. However, it fits, "Thrash" has always fit, it just works, and I love it. ;)

Got a bit quiet here for a few days.

I was wondering what any of the folks haunting this thread thought of bands like Sunn O))), Boris, etc as well as the whole drone metal genre.

My friends and I have made jokes about making Sunn O))) ringtones (and having to carry around a special sub-woofer and such for it) but I do genuinely enjoy some of this music when I'm in the mood for it. (I find it easier to listen to music w/o understandable lyrics when I'm working or doing something that requires focus.)

its background noise to me...which means i dont like it really. i like ONE boris record ive heard, the clear ten inch where they are playing fast. like DROPDEAD.

i also think its really fucking weird that they are opening the WET REPUBLIC pool party at the MGM GRAND in vegas this weekend.

big fan of boris, the Pink album is amazing although barely touches drone and live they're just incredible. I can dig some SUNN records but live is really where they're mindblowing...

i saw Asva once and was bored off my face though, the same with a bunch of bands at the Sonic Youth catered ATP. sometimes noise is just noise, but other times it can be really meditative.

My friends and I constantly make jokes about Sunn O))) playing live: they'd just hit a note that would go "BUNGGGGGGGG" and drop their guitars and come back in five minutes to hit the next chord.

Drone metal, ehhhh, I can get into some of it, but the Boris I like the best is the faster stuff. When I saw them they played mostly droney stuff and it got old pretty fast.

I dig Sunn 0))) if I'm in the mood, especially Black 1, and I like some of the Earth stuff, but mostly I ignore drone metal. I like metal for the viciousness even more than the volume, and drone seems to suck all the danger out of metal, leaving only a vague menace and eardrum injury.

Sorry to drag this back from page 3, but a band on a label i do some stuff for just put up a new track off their upcoming album, and it happens to be my favorite song on that album and of the year so far...

Car Bomb has some great songs. Those guys are nuts.

Been listening to a lot of biker/stoner/70's revivalism stuff lately. Solarized, Nebula, Kyuss, Atomic Bitchwax, and of course, the mighty Motorhead.

Shot in the dark here, but is anyone going to the Mastadon/Dethklok show on oct 31st at the patriot center outside of DC? I saw Dethklok with Soilent Green last year and it was a damn good show, so I'm definately looking forward to it.

Yep. Converge and High on Fire are both on the undercard. I like to rate a show based on the extent of my injuries, so I'm glad I just renewed my insurance. Should be a good time.

@Varuker - Holy hells! Dethklock, Mastodon, Converge and High On Fire?
The amount of envy I'm currently experiencing is unbelievable.
Give us all the bloody details for the show afterwards ... if you're able to use your fingers or toes that is.
