Unrelated to metal but related to famous TAs from college: I had a TA my junior year who ended up being Tay Zonday of "Chocolate Rain" interwub fame. Although I would really like to see him front a metal band.
Related to Metal: What are peoples' thoughts on bands like Black Mountain? I have had several conversations with metal dudes who absolutely despise Black Mountain and other kind of throwback metal groups, but I thoroughly enjoy 'em.
@Giles - I was NOT aware of Shrinebuilder's line up until I looked it up after your post. It's basically a metal supergroup, isn't it? Thanks again!
@brycemidas - Very nice links. Battlefields sound great. I loved that Aussitot Mort track. And Bearskull ... they sound like so much damn fun.
@joe.distort - I had heard of Hatebeak via that great Pig Destroyer article but hadn't heard them until I read your post and felt compelled this time around. I was kind of stunned at how good it sounded for a "novelty" band. Same with Caninus. Not something I'd listen to regularly, but still ...
Looking for through a few threads here I can see quite a few Neurosis fans kicking about...found this on Youtube. Basically it's them at their peak (Souls At Zero- Through Silver In Blood era)
@brycemidas - Do you mean you were actually playing on that tour? Now I'm double pissed I didn't get to go to Chicago. I haven't talked to Andy or Rob in forever. And missing a chance to say hey to one of my favorite "It's a small world" internet compatriots? Pissed.
Anyway, I can also vouch for Battlefields's awesomeness. Pretty much every band those guys have been in has been awesome, and I'm glad this one's going somewhere.
@rickie Nope, I was gonna fill in on bass but our friend Casey from Weather is Happening/Rickyfitts nabbed that duty so I was basically just a translator for Overmars/dude who got wasted and yelled a lot. The Chicago show was awesome though, we basically drank until our brains fell out.
Also Rob and I watched almost all of Battlestar Galactica in the van during that tour and are now finishing the last few episodes, I will holler at him for ya.
@groundxero I was actually hesitating on throwing DFD on here, since I feel a little out of my element reading this thread. SMB doesn't strike me as "metal" but the longer I sit here and think about it the more it makes sense.
Since I'm here: Look What I Did, especially their album, "Minuteman for the Moment". Everything I've heard of their upcoming album ("Atlas Drugged", out Feb 2nd) suggests they're going in a punk-ier direction.
They are pretty fucking nuts. This song makes me want to put a sledgehammer to an infant. Not sure if they can be classified as metal as they sound a bit like doomy Melvins stuff. Enjoy!
