I tried to find a video of CCP, because they are *mental*. As in, a majority of their songs, the lyrics were actually just one or more of them throwing up into trash cans, as a chorus, or a bridge, etc. Truly an experiment in Abjection. <3
probably going to see THE COPYRIGHTS tonight, but the venue they are at+ SIX GODDAMN BANDS+ shows always starting two hours late means i doubt i will even stay to see them FROWN
Saw THE MENZINGERS last night. By the last song it was absolute pandemonium, the crowd mobbed the stage. I don't think they even got out anything past the first verse onto the microphone. New songs sound great.
mad jealous, love that band. good to hear the new songs are still kick ass...i hate to compare things in this manner, but with the LAWRENCE ARMS probably done (or at least done in any sort of 'full time band' status) the MENZINGERS are probably the heir apparent to the crazy sing along pop punk niche they leave behind. good dudes, i think i said this on another thread but they got me and my wife into the Warped tour here in exchange for 11 beers haha
The Epitaph money is going to good use, from what I can tell. My guess is the subsequent record release tour will be absolutely transformative. Love those guys and I realized how much I missed them in my listening rotation. They still play Straight To Hell live and it's nutty to see the crowd's response.
Going to see the Metal Suckfest tonight in New York. Bought a ticket on a whim because I have been having a really good time at shows where I don't necessarily know the bands and where the music is rather, aherm, aggressive.
Stoked to see Rosetta, the Red Chord, and Cynic. We'll see how I feel about the rest of the bands.
WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY: Still great times, they played a lot of deep album stuff I'm not as big a fan of. New people bring hella energy. Great gig.
BANE: I love them and they still kill but I wish they'd play different songs live.
HAWKS AND DOVES: Gared from PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS with a different backing band and playing stuff like PMFS, but not so heavy or fast.
just found out japanese grind weirdos MELT BANANA are playing in a week?? they always play this shitty bar in phoenix (every time they have been here in the past 15 years, with the exception of when they opened for FANTOMAS at a bigger venue) that does zero promotion and attracts a boring ass crowd of bar-rockers. their tour manager told me its because this place treats them really, really well so i cant fault them but UGH i hate shows there. so thats a hard 'maybe'
i really need something fun though. 2011 has been the worst year for me for shows in probably a decade. i havent seen a tense, fun punk show since the second week of the year.
Saw Boris the other night. That was a lot of fun, though they had way more hipster fans than I expected. I swear every other dude there was wearing a beanie, flannel, and thick rimmed glasses.
noisy, heavy shit is pretty much the province of dudes with beards and flannels. they took over pop-punk somewhere after 2002, and have been branching out since. god bless their furry souls. KOWLOON WALLED CITY played last night here, and im pretty sure thats where all of the beards went.
