@joe.distort - yeah, man! i heard about that (their tour manager was charged due to Arizona law stating that the driver of the vehicle is responsible for all things within the vehicle) and was worried they wouldn't be able to come here. i didn't realise it was mushrooms. the press release i read just said "a controlled substance" or "contraband." well, i'm sure they'll be able to get more mushrooms here in Vancouver...

im not a 100% on the shroom part, i heard it from the guy who booked it here. lets say it wouldnt be the first time he gave me mixed up info...

I got to see Negative Approach this Saturday, and it may have been the most intense show (barring the ones where there was an actual riot) I've ever been to. Two smaller Hardcore bands opened up, Guilt Trip and Black Sheep Squadron, and both were fine, but the show really started when last minute addition Antidote took the stage. I don't know how well known they are outside of NY, but they're one of those NYHC legends that released one record and then dissolved into other bands. Intense as hell.

Negative Approach were just a force: no banter, no pauses, and John Brannon sounds exactly the same as he did when he was a kid.

    Amazing.

    @ JeffZero

Yeah, I saw them play Are We Not Men! On Sat night they played Freedom of Choice, but I was out of town. It was amazing. They rock so hard. I got to see them a couple of summers ago at McCaren Pool, but seeing them in a small theater was spectacular.

Going to see Pixies play Doolittle tomorrow night.

    yup, im in phoenix and
last minute addition Antidote took the stage

HOLY SHIT that one 7" is amazing (for its time...its one of those things that has been copied so much/influenced so many bands that without any frame of reference, you might think it was kinda generic)

ANTIDOTE and NA. christ im jealous.

    @ Joe

Definitely. Growing up in NY, it seemed like every band I went to see used it as a blueprint.

They sounded amazing on Saturday; I was floored. Note perfect, energetic, seriously thrilling.

@Dorkmuffin. I havent seen you either. I got there early, and ended up up front. And yeah I am local to Philly, so if you know of any decent shows in the area, give me a nudge.

Did you miss Satanized? If so, you missed a whole lot of this:

    Satanized @ FUC

It was revolting enough to be interesting, especially after he dropped his pants.

Melt Banana and Melt Banana Lite was amazing. Blew me away. People up weren't sure if they want to dance or mosh and flail like epileptics. Some poor guy up front and center kept clutching the front wedge speaker for the whole show, otherwise it would be sent hurling towards the singer as the press of people kept pushing forward. Kudos to him.

Shot some instant film as well, but I am too lazy to get it on my computer. Otherwise the rest of the evenin'g pics are up here if anyone is interested.

@munin, I was: dancing, moshing AND flailing like an epileptic. I am mightily bruised (I bruise easy—actually a very friendly mosh pit).

I missed Satanized and am now even MORE glad. Eeeyyuch. Not crazy about their music so I wasn't really into catching them.

And yeah, I go to the U of Pennsylvania, so I go to shows when I can. Jonathan Coulton on the third of December (for a TOTALLY different change of pace) at the World Cafe. May go, depending on the boy's band's schedule.

    Seconded...those are some wonderful pictures.

yes. King Khan & BBQ were amazing! the sound that those two create is staggering.
such great performers. always able to insight near riots by just being. i saw three people escorted out by bouncers... which, for most of the shows i see, rarely happens. maybe a few people will get too high or drunk and pass out from the strange frequencies, but rarely is violence a highlight...

i highly recommend these fellows to everyone.
