i honestly don't know but it definitely has that sort of jammy vibe to it. there is live footage on youtube if you enter the band and album (notice how i cleverly avoided adding a video to your jukebox). It's definitely not going to be to everyone's taste but i love this stuff. just wish i could play it.
I know there's a video of Ralf and Florian doing a song called "Truckstop Gondelero" somewhere on YouTube, with Florian whipping out the flute and all, and it's VERY improv and jazz-like, albeit through the filter of their electronic viewpoint. My love of Kraftwerk always came from hearing stories of black DJs and hip-hop artists in the early 80's asking "Who the hell are those funky black dudes in Kraftwerk?", followed by "What? They're white boys from Germany?"
Music nerd trivia: OMD named their first album "Organisation" after Ralf and Florian's piece. I'm sure you all knew that already.

They're the bastard children of industry come forth to set humanity rockin'.
having grown up bout the same time as derrick may (a few years younger), i can attest that detroit was obssessed with kraftwerk in the 80s. a dj named electrifying mojo would play their 12" and albums in their entirety night after night over the air and their songs would chart on our local stations right next to prince, rick james and david bowie (our RnB stations were a bit more open-minded back then)-and you can still play 'numbers' or 'tour de france' at any detroit party regardless of the ages present and people will dance.
The Pipkins. Wow. I heard that a few times on the radio in the early '70s, remembered the chorus but had no idea who did the song. It's the sort of tune that would have been on American radio back then.
Just looked up Lush on Wikipedia (they passed me by when they were at their peak: I preferred other 4AD bands like Throwing Muses and Belly etc.), and found this out about lead singer Miki Berenyi:
Her mother, Yasuko Nagazumi was a Japanese actress who played minor roles in the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice and in TV-series Space: 1999.
Mental. I'm glad the band is getting some nice residuals lately, what with two of their songs appearing on Rock Band. Shoegazey stuff too, not the pop stuff as shown above (De-Luxe and Sweetness and Light, if you're interested).
