Pfah. He's picking on my turtles, so he's not getting any wigs from me.
And look, I wasn't looking to totally derail this thread since I've enjoyed it very much for some time. I sat through the OMD video a second time, and without sarcasm, no, I don't understand what you're getting at with that, Warren. So feel free to educate me.
Heh i played drums in a one off punk jam band with an Martin Degville of Sigue Sigue Sputnik, he shouted a lot about the goverment and them vomited on an amp....
I wonder how many Brits here are old enough to remember "The Rhythm Pals"? Unless it's a sign of my incipient senility, wasn't that what David 'Kid' Jensen and John Peel called themselves when they co-hosted TOTP?
Damn, that Joy Division video is good. Directed by Anton Corbijn, I think?
people have written off OMD, which if you take into account anything they released after 'Dazzle Ships' is a fair comment but there are several reasons to go re-visit their back catalogue. 1. they released an album called 'Dazzle Ships'. 2. Said album was, at the time, rather odd. Shortwave radio, samples. There's one track that features only these lyrics., "abc 123" 3. Organisation. Even if you detest Enola Gay (can't see any other country producing a band that would sing something most folk misunderstood to be a love song that was actually about the US decision to drop an atomic bomb. It has 'Stanlow' on it. Stanlow is the name of an oil refinery. It is a wonderful track. 4. Martin Hannett added reverb on the reverb of the early mixes of electricity, which was on Factory records. 5. Architecture & Morality is actually a very good album.
I could go on for hours about Joy Division being wondrous. I shouldn't need to, so I wont.
((Never mind, my comment was time warped. Move along.))
I would, however, like to say Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Because I am an obedient like Whitechapel Monkey who exists to entertain and aid Mr. Ellis. On Fridays.
My gut reaction was to mention that I was pretty sure Pete Wisdom did while he was chatting up Kitty Pryde in a bar. But I feel like I've detracted from the quality of this thread enough already.
