Heh. Warren works for Mickey Mouse.

I'm thinking, like many others here, that Marvel will run as is. I don't think any major shakeups will transpire, maybe waiting for certain rights lapse on Disney's part so they can bring adaptations in-house.

I was actually kinda stoked when I heard the rumblings of a Pixar/Marvel collaboration.

That being said, I can't wait for the Jonas Brothers to ROCK the 616!

hey if they have the money, why not buy a successful buissness and capitalize on it.

"the acquisition will help Disney appeal to young men who have flocked to theaters to see Marvel's superheroes in recent years. That contrasts with Disney's recent successes among young women with such fare as ``Hannah Montana'' and the Jonas Brothers.``It helps Disney add exposure to a young male demographic it had sort of lost some balance with,''

"We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation"

maybe they could get hannah montana for the avengers movie! that would help the demographic/brand/growth/profability..

This is exactly the sort of thing that I fear.

    Kel Mitchell as Cloak.

Um...Please, dont close the thread, Mr. Ellis

You'll see, we'll eventually learn that Donald's nephews are Howard the Duck's sons.

Hopefully this means that Marvel/Disney (Disnarvel) will be able to get back movie rights to characters who have been acquired by other studios, i.e. Fantastic Four, X-Men etc. When those rights lapse, of course. Disney better make sure Fox hasn't slipped in one of those Trojan-horse style clauses as they did with Watchmen. Still, if this is the case, I'm glad. Without Disney's muscle & wallet, it would be an impossibility.

Let's not forget, Disney owns Miramax Films who have done films like Pulp Fiction and owned Dimension Films for about thirteen years 1992-2005. I can't imagine that Disney will be changing much of anything that Marvel does except for using the toy companies they usually use for action figures and send the scripts of any movies to one of their production companies.

Excepting of course Disney's blatant attempt to block Miramax's release of Farenheit 9/11 because it was "against Disney's interests", and similar controversy surrounding Dogma.

That's an awesome, awesome point. Since Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, I've been wishing Marvel Studios would be able to buy back the rights to those other movies. 'Cause, really, if you're starting a movie universe w/ Iron Man, Hulk, Cap, and (still possibly?) Ant-Man, it wouldn't hurt to get your biggest cash-spider involved at some point down the line.

As a shareholder of Disney; I find the events of today just absolutely hilarious as well as positive. Please Warren
ahh ;that would be Mr. Ellis, no, Disney does first names, Warren keep performing those "paying the rent" deals for Disney nee Marvel. Make my stock go up and allow me to buy more Avatar titles. I now am in a win-win.

My guess; however, I by no means have a real clue; is that your current 'contractual obligations' will probably go unchanged. I certainty hope so for both you and myself. Interesting! I have been a part of this in my own career and have seen it go both bad and good in this situation. For you(as pertains to your Marvel dealings), I hope it works out. Talent is indeed a strange commodity.

    Hmm. We'll see.

Of course, I'm a DC fan from way back, so I'm curious what kind of conversations are going on over in their offices right now. If things go well for Marvel, they're going to gain access to resources, distribution channels and audiences that any comic book company would kill its own mother for. And then resurrect in a hilariously tortured and complicated manner only so they could kill her again. I figure DC can't help but see this as a threat, so I wonder what their plans are to hold on to their share of the market when they're competing against the Disney/Marvel Juggernaut (cue picture of Juggernaut with mouse ears).

I would expect that, once all the jokes have been done...someone at DC is going to raise major concerns about new attention paid to DC by the parent company, and oh shit didn't Paul Levitz just get someone new to report to?

    More consolidation of media.

Can you imagine, the People Who Think Dan DiDio Should Be Fired and the People Who Think Joe Quesada Should Be Fired are now owned by the same company? (Pwned?)

Maybe the price of comics will go down!

I dunno, Andre, I don't think we've got too much to worry about there. Disney also owns Mirimax, which has produced the vast majority of both Kevin Smith's and Quentin Tarantino's movies.

Under Disney's control Miramax was a butcher of a studio. Their mistreatment of Hero is downright legendary, and they had a repeated history of buying international films with the sole purpose of shoving them in the back room so no one else could watch them. Jim Jarmusch hates them, as he refused to let them edit his movie Dead Man so they simply buried the film in release, making sure no one could see it and that is hardly the only case. My favorite story though is how when Miramax was threatening to cut down Princess Mononoke that one of the foreign producers sent a katana to Harvey Weinstein with a note that simply read "No cut!"

Don't even get me started on Miramax suing foreign distributers for distributing their own films just because US audiences might be able to acquire the film by importing the DVD.

Under Disney control Miramax was an absolute bully, putting profit before art and acquiring films that they had no intention of releasing simply so none of their competitors could. So while I know people are using Miramax as an example of how Disney has put out adult content, I just though people should be made aware that that content was not without its price.

Disney's The Incredible Hulk 2: Fairy Princess Bubblebath...

As long as they keep their hands of DC.
