Commence playlist speakage.
I have a thing here by Sparklehorse & Fennesz to listen to, and a new band formed from the ashes of Blitzkrieg Bliss sent me some music...
New Mountain Goats! - I haven't got a chance to fully absorb it yet as they've always been a band where the lyrics are more important than the music to me, but there's no noticable drop in quality so far. It's got a Get Lonely feel to it.
New Lucero! - I've listened to this a bunch of times and it's really great. Catchy rockers and heartfelt slower numbers. They're a band that can develop their sound without losing the core of what makes them great.
The Gateway District - This album seemed pretty decent at first, but the more I listen to it the better it gets. The Soviettes were a good band but I think I prefer these guys.
Stiff Little Fingers - I still think Inflammable Material is the best punk album of the initial crop of 77-79 UK punk.
Season transitions always make my listening habits weird.
Primordial - The Gathering Wilderness Assemblage 23 - Failure Circa Survive - On Letting Go Lucero - 1372 Overton Park VNV Nation - Of Faith, Power, and Glory Big Star - #1 Record/Radio City
Season transitions always make my listening habits weird.
Very much.

Nurse With Wound / Current 93 - Bright Yellow Moon I forgot i even owned this album. found it hiding amongst my LPs earlier today. It's pretty good but I'm more a fan of NWW than i am of C93 and there's a lot of Tibet on this one.
earlier on today in the car i was listening to Stations of the Crass very loudly as i drove home from work. t'was a fine blast from the past.
world domination enterprises a sunny day in glasgow - ashes grammar (as newly leaked on the interweb) and scraping foetus off the wheel's 'I'll meet you in Poland baby'
Some albums I've been playing these last few days:
BILL EVANS TRIO: Waltz for Debby ERIC DOLPHY: Outward Bound ANNA JÄRVINEN: Jag fick feeling NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS: No More Shall We Part MILES DAVIS: ESP CHRISTIAN KJELLVANDER: Songs from a Two-Room Chapel
Jeff Mangum - Live At Jittery Joe's. Whenever I see this man's name I think he should change it to Magnum, for the awesome. Biffy Clyro - ...And With A Scissor Kick is Victorious. God I love this song. Stupid thing is only available on b-side or illegal download. Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island. Just because. Metric - Fantasies. Just an impossibly "up" album, great stuff. Tubelord - I am Azerrad. "Art pop" at it's finest. Iron & Wine - The Shepards Dog. Just really, really, really, good stuff. Rolo Tomassi - Hysterics. Because it's wonderful.
i'm chilling listening to the track Hore, Der Du Wagst by Popol Vuh (from the album Bruder Des Schattens - Sohne Des Lichts) and have just been struck by how similar it is to Brian Eno's Music For Airports. They were both released in 1978 too.
Another Body Murdered - FNM/Boo-Ya Tribe This Town Ain't Big Enough - FNM/Sparks Dust Disco - Jim Martin Bird's Eye - Mike Patton and Serj Tankian Across 110th Street - Peeping Tom Desperate Situation - Peeping Tom Fire In The Hole - General Patton & The X-ecutioners
Cinematic Orchestra's "Man with a Movie Camera" is a great record to which to write.
This week: Angels of Light - Everything is Good Here/Please Come Home Swans - Burning World (bit of a M. Gira kick) Tom Waits - Foreign Affairs Astrud Gilberto - Astrud Gilberto Album
And waiting for the new Lucero to come out, on my birthday. Huzzah!
Alice In Chains - the songs "Check My Brain" and "A Looking In View" Murder By Death - Red of Tooth and Claw Jeff Buckley - Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk CKY - Carver City A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms AC/DC - Back In Black
I have a thing here by Sparklehorse & Fennesz to listen to,
I've been listening to a lot of Sparklehorse recently. Also on my ipod frequently in the last few weeks; Ballad of Broken Seas - Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanaghan Alas I cannot Swim - Laura Marling Seldom Seen Kid - Elbow I also love Frank Turner's cover of "you are my sunshine"
I think it's the weather - London's been quite cold and grey recently and this sort of stuff is proper comfort music for me.
The XX-Damn I love this album. It's all just perfect. Nice beats. Nice guitars. Nice guy. Nice girl. Really wonderful late night driving music. Antony and the Johnsons-The crying light. My girlfriend got me this on vinyl for my birthday, so I've been listening to it a lot. Patti Smith- Easter. Also from my GF. Also on vinyl. You know Patti Smith, I would presume. Babelogue is my jam. Lou Reed- Sally Can't Dance. Specifically the song "billy". Also on vinyl.
Led Zeppelin - II, III, and IV Joe Henry - Blood From Stars John Lee Hooker - Very Best Of Murder By Death - Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them
Islands probably one of my favourite bands right now. just totally stellar in every regard. you are a fucking asshole if you don't at least give 'em a shot. also, i'm pretty sure they have a new album set for release this month!
Man Man too much talent here, they must be stopped. they use such a huge range of instruments and play in many many styles. fucking invigorating!
O'Death i recently saw these guys open for Les Claypool and i enjoyed their performance much much more than his. they play a lot of banjo and ukulele in fancy refreshing ways!
Early Man kind of a throw back to 80s speed metal. really well executed. these guys rule. i especially like a song of theirs called "war eagle".
my eyes shoot laser beams at will they’re dialed in and set to kill there is no truce here is the deal i am an eagle made of steel
The Golers or maybe it's just "Golers", i'm not %100 sure. a hardcore band who's namesake is the Golers, a notorious backwoods clan of introverts found guilty of incest (definitely worth looking up if you've never heard of these folk). most songs are about the Goler family. (ie. "new age fern sniffers", "south mountain style", "french kiss the dairy cow", "basil (the luckless seal)". these guys ooze talent, and some other stuff too.
3 Inches of Blood 3 Inches of Fucking Blood, nuff said.
