So what are you listening to right now?

New week's releases should be up at http://www.piccadillyrecords.com at some point today, if they're not already - just choose a genre from left and click "magic mix" to stream excerpts from the new releases.

I'm listening to EARS WILL POP AND EYES WILL BLINK, the new album by Bodies Of Water. Very reminiscent of Polyphonic Spree in places. Apparently they're all terribly Christian, but I can't hear the words well enough to tell. "These Are The Eyes" is the standout so far -- slow to start, but by halfway through it's almost like a gospel call-and-response version of "Ça Plane Pour Moi..."

(I'm very tired)

Been listening to a ton of old gospel and mountain music lately. There's an amazing box set called Goodbye Babylon which is possibly the greatest thing released by a record label ever, a living testimony against downloading. The whole thing comes in a beautiful wooden box with a sliding front (like a wine casket for two bottles). 6 CD's with over 20 tracks on each, all culled from 78's, 5 of which are amazing old time religious music (all pre-war, some black, some white) and the last which is just sermons from the same era. A book with lyrics and biographical info for every artist. And raw cotton. Yes, raw cotton.

I'm also still loving that Le Loup album. http://www.myspace.com/leloupmusic

Mix of singles and albums this week, retro to get me through a long line of digital coloring I've needed to get done:

SEVERED HEADS "Retread" EP: Great remixes from the most accessible period of this weirdo Australian synth-pop band's career, highlighted by the stellar single "All Saints Day".

Music from "Flight of the Conchords": God, I'm hooked on these guys, always making me laugh out loud, especially their brilliant piss-take on Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls" called "Inner City Pressure". Here it is:

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM: "A Bunch Of Stuff" EP: Whole bunch of remixes from their "Sounds of Silver" CD. Good stuff, improves most of the tracks, in my opinion.

SHRIEKBACK "Jam Science": God these guys were good in their prime. "Oil and Gold" is my fave album of theirs, but this one is the best dance album, with both "Mercy Dash" and "Suck" as standout tracks.
Not from "Jam Science", but here's "Nemesis" from "Oil and Gold":

BLANCMANGE "Mange Tout": Sorry, more 80's synthpop, but I never apologize for loving these guys; what a weird mix, and one of the few bands to buck the "synth music = icy cold detached" equation. Watch them here:
