Quick heads up about a new UK anthology of alt. comic artists based in and around London that I'm putting together called Solipsistic Pop:

Solipsistic Pop is a biannual anthology designed to spotlight the best in alternative Comic art from the UK.

It features diverse, beautiful, twisted and peculiar Comics that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Comic artists old and new are encouraged to contribute. Solipsistic Pop intends to provide a support structure and outlet for UK alternative Comics.

Each book of Solipsistic Pop will be a boutique, tactile product. An interactive, unique artefact designed to suit the content of each edition with an extremely limited printrun.

The website will be updated with previews of artwork from the first book, essays, news and related live events.

Book one arrives November 2009

There's also a manifesto up there that may be of interest. A book launch for November is being organised and I'll post more details about this nearer the time. Spread the word!

Seriously though, the passion for this is frankly palpable, and I'm very excited about the prospect of seeing a copy sometime soon.

thanks everyone for the support and interest in the anthology! Really excited about it and some of the contributions coming in are absolutely stunning (hope to have some uploaded to the blog this week).

I should clarify that the tube map and vague scientist cartoons are by Stephen Collins - one of our contributors - and not me, but I'll be sure to pass the kind words on!

Launch News!!

Book one of Solipsistic Pop will be officially launched at the Comica Comiket at the ICA on November 8th.

The stall will feature copies of the book and a selection of work by the contributors. Most contributors will be there on the day to sign books. The Comiket will be open between 1pm and 6pm.

A post-launch party will take place in the ICA bar from 7.30pm until closing. There will be live drawing and DJ sets from contributors during the night.

For those of you who missed the blogging Tom spoke at length about the project to Alex Fitch on Resonance.fm, and recently made a journey to see the presses in action. It's looking bloody beautiful, frankly, and I can't wait to get hold of it at the launch night.

That looks interesting. There's seems to be a nice crossover happening between comics/illustration/design there.

Whats the price point for the book? (Excuse my thickness but I can't find a price on the site) And what's your print run going to be?

Hi all - thanks for the kind comments and enthusiasm! The books will be selling at £12 (which includes the main book, a newspaper insert, and two minicomics). It will be a limited printrun of 500

So, Tom had a copy out and about last night, and it's just about one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a long time. I think the contributors who were out had a mixture of stunned expressions and teary eyes, even from Gillen, and Rich Johnston gave a flattering comparison to Raw.

Launch at the ICA has now become a must-attend event.

Thanks Warren - and if you can't make it along on Sunday I'll reserve/send a copy for you.

Minos - happy to keep a few copies aside for latecomers on the day. Will be taking around 150 copies so we should be well stocked enough. Orbital comics, local book stores, and the website will be stocked after the launch though if you don't make it.

Just got back from ComICA and - though I said I shouldn't - ended up buying more than just Solipsistic Pop.

Thanks Tom for taking the time to talk and I hope you enjoy the day and evening as much as I enjoyed the Comiket.

As you said, once I've read it, I'll be sure to put a small review up.
