There was, way back in the mists of... 2007... a recurrent meme among several comics art blogs. Reclaiming characters from their owners, I guess it could be broadly described as... people were reimagining abused characters (chiefly Supergirl) as artistic call-and-response various places, chiefly LiveJournal. In the aftermath of that, I did a similar thing on old messageboard The Engine, called REMAKE/REMODEL. They were embraced as technical exercises, bits of fun, ways to get the brain moving. I think most people's favourite was the dear late Mike Wieringo's wondrous retro-aristo Buck Rogers...

I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character. Photography and digital art is also fine, before anyone asks.

    The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

    --

Okay, this one has the potential for some crazy. Also, if anyone's in the mood to draw insane vehicles, now's your shot...

As Skywolf, Larry Wolfe wore a white wolf pelt into battle and headed a three-man flier team. Members of the team include Cocky Roche, who was a cockney, and the Judge, an old Englishman turned down by the R.A.F. because of his age. The last member was "The Turtle," A Polish mute whose tongue was cut out by Germans and who communicated by tapping on his own head in Morse Code. The group flew special planes that split in half to become separate vehicles. In fact, Skywolf and his team were such an effective group of Nazi fighters that Adolf Hitler himself was desperate to get rid of them to the point of actually participating in a plan to capture them. Skywolf teamed up with Airboy and battled the monstrous Heap during the course of his adventures.

I don't make this shit up, I swear.

    --

Your task, as ever, is to re-invent that into something a 21st Century audience could enjoy.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with, but bear in mind this is an ART thread. No pen-portraits. This is ART ONLY. Posting just a bunch of text, or a scribble and a vast number of words, will get the thread closed and your account banned.

    You have one week. Go.

    Damn, that was up quick.

This should be fun. I'm in. I even promise not to hurt Paul Sizer's brain this week. Maybe.

I remember this character from the Eclipse AIRWOLF comic. I'll have to think of SOMETHING different.

*edit* That should be Eclipse's AIRBOY comic.

Skywolf? Eclipse comics? Doesn't Mcfarlane own these characters now? I know for sure he's got The Heap.

    The plan failed:

I intend to color this, but if anyone who isn't as BAD at coloring as I am wants to give it a try, you're more than welcome. Until then, the two first stages of this drawing, if you're interested:

Man, this one DOES sound groovy and full of potential; timing-wise the majority of "the week to get it done" will be shot up with my participation in SPX, so it's going to be up in the air whether I can squeak something out. Maybe I should challenge myself, for once. We'll see...

Nice one for the first shot, Andre!

Thanks, Paul. Surely you won't miss this one...? It has HITLER! We all know how much you love Hitler.

    Being punched, of course.

Well, maybe I DO have one more "Hitler getting punched in the testicle" image in me...
That doesn't qualify as a subset of Godwin's Law, does it?

You cannot really "own" them, they are public domain. He may own the rights to unique aspects of Eclipse's versions and trademarks related to, but everyone owns them now.

    Larry Wolfe IS the Skywolf.

    The SKYWOLF!

Larry Wolfe also apparently is totally okay with bailing out of his plane with just a pistol and a wolfskin gasmask. Maybe he's got a wolfskin-rocketeer style propulsion device too.

@Andre Navaro, John_Bivens, and Ix: Nice opening salvo, guys!

@Ix: Man, I could get lost in that...
