    I love that Eliza does this. Have you ever seen it? It's an idea worth studying.

    Several times a week, I host a live video broadcast of my daily drawing and sketching. It’s called the Sweatshop, and it’s slowly growing in popularity.


    Sweatshops are my own personal nighttime open mic drawing lessons, storytellings, and heckling opportunities. I announce the session is starting via my Twitter, and the call to arms is bounced around by viewers as the night goes on. Sometimes I point my cam at a page, sometimes at a Photoshop window, and very occasionally at a canvas. Guests wander into and out of the chatroom, offering wisecracks, critique, and shaggy dog stories. It’s a blast.

    I've seen a few of them. You should watch them if you get the chance. I remember the night when this, this and this were drawn. It was a good time and a very late night for me.

    I watched that one there (with the bee). Very quiet and special thing it was, just a few of us discussing random things together, music, art, childhood, television. I think we were at different time zones too, which made the whole thing ethereal. At one point she broke off the sketch and did a quick tutorial for one of the watchers who had disclosed some unconfidence with their skills.

    I recommend it heavily to all true humans.

    I do do this, don't I? I love it. My father has been dropping in lately...he said, "This is really the perfect compromise between solitude and company, isn't it?" He's right. I love having the quiet contact when I draw, sometimes. And the music is a big part of it, too. I always have a playlist going over Ustream, which doesn't seem to sound too bad. Occasionally, we'll get a guest DJ which I pipe in over a different stream (Nicecast or Skype) and out Ustream, to the audience (or the Kroo, as I've been calling them lately).

    Here are a few more pieces I've done live in the Sweatshop. These were from the night of Batmans...hooooooo.

    Oh yes, and as burningfp brought up, lately I have not been able to help myself from teaching a bit, too. It's terribly convenient to have the sketchbook there to draw diagrams, and a small clot of eager students! But don't worry, mostly it is boobs and batman and not so much lecturing. Unless the lecture is about Batman.

    Love your take on Batman. Also, I agree Bats has only been spared the AA is because he's rich.

    I love the Batman in his tidy-whities, rocking the flip-flops, with Hater Gon' HATE. Very much the exact image I get of Batman/Bruce Wayne, I shit you not.

    hurrrDude I am so into Batman as he does not appear in comics. I don't know why; I don't give much of a shit about other superheroes.

    It might be because of my obsessive following of the Comic Strip Megathread on the Something Awful Forums. Its sole purpose is to dissect, ridicule, and appreciate comics currently running in physical newspapers all over the world. As a rule, I avoid newspaper comics and have never followed any plotlines. But thanks to the Megathread, I've been following the newspaper Spiderman for a few months now. And let me tell you---Spiderman is reeee-tarded. If he's not being defeated by bricks popping him on the head, he's being hit by trucks (with sfx: FAPPO!), hanging out with his tranny supermodel wife, or getting into pissing contests with his "good buddy" Wolverine.

    The edits of newspaper Spiderman from that thread are intensely funny.

    In any case, I wanted to mention I've been inspired by Amanda Palmer's recent righteous diatribe about artists' entitlement to make money from their patrons. I'm going to be running a Very Commercial Sweatshop tomorrow Thursday PST afternoon/evening that will be solely for paid commissions. Audience members will PayPal me five bucks for a pencil sketch, ten for pencil+ink, and I'll scale up from there, if there's demand. I'll run it marathon-style and see how long I can keep it up.

    You should tune in tomorrow Thursday and wear me out.

    I love you all but I love Warren the most and that is why he has a corkscrew hand, BOOZ knuckle tattoos, and Lovingly-Rendered Pit Hair.

    Note that I changed the date of the Very Commercial Sweatshop to Thursday, since today I am death itself.

    Here's a giant robot oil painting I started in a Berlin edition of Sweatshop. It was payment for my friend Mischa, who let me stay at his house for weeks. I had to abandon it there. I'll finish it when I go back in November.
