I love Zinepal. It's a wonderful idea. Start a blog. And don't tell anyone where it is. Not necessary. Because you've hooked it up to Zinepal. So you give them the Zinepal link. What Zinepal does is suck your blog up a pipe, turn it into another file format, and email it out to your subscribers. Daily, if you like. Zinepal counts your posts, and will scoop them up once a day, or when there's more than five new ones, or whatever you set it to do.

You can set it so it'll arrive in email as a PDF at 7am, and your audience can print it off before they go to work. Or you can have Zinepal send out your stream of choice as a daily Mobipocket or ePub file, and you can read it on the phone down the pub.

Food for thought?

Virtually nobody's going to print it out. The phone, much more useful.

There's some disparity in the collective consciousness between the web and print. Print is "real" as is web content legitimized by corporate approval or a big enough audience, so money and/or enough eyes, summarily: success legitimizes web content.

If it's "real" then it will be in print anyways. If it's ethereal, it's disposable fun that may always be there.

But this is essentially what free PDF programs and Google Groups will let you do anyway. The advantage to the content producer here is...saving time converting the web pages into standard page size? Accessibility to the reader/chance of accidental discovery?

I mean, if this is what a reader wanted, they could just be printing out your web page. So it's simply streamlining/collecting your web content, organizing it into either a portable or concrete fashion.

Wish them the best, but I don't see the major need this fills for the reader, and only to a degree, for the creator. The best use I see is their mention of "mobile readers" though even then, a lot of urban rail systems have or will soon have phone reception.

Toronto doesn't have any reception underground and I don't really think the TTC is planning on doing anything like that. They hate having to work or spend money.

Zinepal sounds like an amazing site. I'll be investing in a sony e-reader in about a week or two and I'll be sure to download weekly/daily zines to read on the train along with books.

The site certainly is interesting - when I can get enough content trickling onto my blog to make a weekly zine worth it, remembering of course that a lot of embloginations are rendered obsolete my the transfer into print - links are considerably less useful, and embedded video for instance not useful at all, I'ma take a hard look at this. Currently the interface is a little wonky, but that could be my Eee''s interpretation. Certainly I wouldn't trust the thing to deliver automated content at this stage, since it falls over on importing some pictures, formatting etc... I do love the idea of my stuff on folded photocopied, stapled paper though (I'm maybe the last generation for which this still has some cache?)

My plan is to strategically leave print outs of the thing in places where folk might find them - one advantage of printed media that could theoretically push more viewers to the original blog.

The Wash. DC Metro only has reliable access to Verizon, I believe. Verizon cut that deal so early that I think they may have exclusive rights for a while.
